Once you settle into the gameplay, however, you’ll soon discover that there are significant differences. Most notably, you can win from all 4 sides with this innovative engine, just as long as the winning combo starts from any of the 4 outer reels that surround the 4x4 inner grid.
Instead of the typical Cascading Wins engine found on so many releases, they have come up with their very own Winning Symbol Replacement feature. Basically, winning symbols are flipped to display new symbols, and this also increases the win multiplier. Yum Yum Powerways Features
The Powerways engine comes with a 4x4 grid in the middle, framed by 4-position reels on all 4 sides. Premiums pay between 0.25 and 1.5 times your stake for 6-oak wins, and you have a wild symbol that steps in for all regular pay symbols. Winning combinations pay from any direction (left to right and vice versa, as well as top to bottom and vice versa), but it must start from any of the 4 outer reels.
Any winning combo triggers the Winning Symbol Replacement feature, and you’ll see the winning positions flip to reveal a new set of symbols. Each winning replacement increases the win multiplier by +1, and this process goes on as long as you keep getting new winning combinations. The progressive multiplier resets back to x1 between paid spins in the base game.
The Bonus Round is triggered when you land at least 3 scatters in view, and you get 6, 8, 10 or 12 free spins when you land 3, 4, 5 or 6 scatters, respectively. You get +1 extra spin per scatter you land during the feature, and you can gamble for up to the maximum of 12 spins up front if you dare to risk the whole bonus round. Review Summary
The win-from-all-4-sides system, which is Powerways in a nutshell, is an impressive innovation. However, you do pay the price with very low overall symbol values, and the fact that you need at least 4-oak to win. A higher potential than their ‘new standard’ 5,000x could have amended this drawback to a certain degree, but it’s not really a major issue anyway.
The gelée-like spinning junk food symbols are probably not what you want to see on hungover mornings, but progressive multiplier Replacement Wins are key to anything of significance coming your way in the base game. To gamble for extra free spins is risky, but the +3 incrementing win multiplier you get in the bonus round can accelerate things to a whole new level when you’re on a streak.
