Tropicool 2 Review

The cool blue color scheme from the original game is long gone in Tropicool 2, and you have to pay close attention to even notice that this is not your usual tropical beach release. The Ice Bar is regularly visited by Belle the Flamingo and Emerson the Tucan, as both birds decided to permanently relocate to the Antarctic region. Elmo the Sloth runs the bar, but apparently he’s no fan of birds. He scares them away when you trigger the Elmo Redrops feature, but we’ll get to that below.

Notable upgrades from the original game is the significantly higher 25,000x potential, but you pay the price in the form of a lower 94 % RTP. The Cool Reel that slides in feature symbols comes with 3 rows instead of just 1, and you get multiplier symbols that build the non-resetting global win multiplier in the bonus round. An interesting Turbo Spins feature has been included in the X-iter menu (not available in all jurisdictions), and this is a solid follow-up if you can look past the deal-breakingly low RTP.

Tropicool 2 Slot Features

You win 0.3 to 3 x your stake for 6 of a kind wins, and you can also land Tony And Fiona scatter pay symbols that pay as long as 3 are in sight. These scatter pay symbols have a value that’s multiplied by the size of the symbols. You get a Cool Reel on top, and it comes with 3 rows. The cool reel lands blanks or feature symbols, and the feature symbols become active if they drop down via the Cascading mechanic.

Winning symbols are removed, and this is how the Feature Symbols from the Cool Reel drops down and become active. They work as follows:

• Wild - steps in for pay symbols to help complete wins (does not substitute for scatter pay symbols)
• Locked Wild - this wild lasts for 3 wins before it’s removed.
• Mystery - all mystery symbols reveal the same randomly chosen symbol type at the end of the drop.
• Row Swap - a symbol replaces all regular pay symbols on the same row.

The Elmo Redrops feature triggers when Elmo drops down from the Cool Reel, but only when he is in size 1x2. He can land as a 1x1 sized symbol as well, and later grow into an active 1x2 sized symbol if a space opens up to allow for that to happen. He scares away bird symbols, and these are replaced by wilds or locked wilds. You also get Redrops, where only locked wilds and bonus symbols remain. He walks one step to the right per Redrop, until he walks off the rightmost reel.

All pay and feature symbols, except for Elmo, birds, or bonus symbols, can appear in size 2x2 or 3x3. Big symbols pay as the number of regular positions they cover, and they crush all symbols below if they drop from the Cool Reel. They do not crush feature symbols or big symbols, however, and they can also break into 1x1 symbols if there is no other way to fit on the main grid.

The Free Drops Bonus Round triggers from 3, 4, 5, or 6 bonus symbols in view, and this awards 6, 9, 12, or 15 free drops, respectively. You get 2 additional Cool Reel symbols in the bonus round, and one is the Extra Drops symbol which gives you 1, 2, or 3 extra free spins. The other is the Multiplier symbol, which adds +1, +2, or +3 to the global win multiplier when activated.

The X-iter Feature Buy menu is available in some jurisdictions, but not in the UK for sure. Here is an overview of what you can buy from the X-iter menu:

• Big Blocks - pay 10x your stake to get a guaranteed big symbol both on the main grid and on the cool reel.
• Turbo Spins - pay 25x your stake to get 25 very fast spins.
• Elmo - pay 50x the stake to get a guaranteed Elmo Redrop feature.
• Buy Bonus - pay 100x the stake to get the bonus round.
• Super Bonus - pay 500x the stake to get the bonus round with a multiplier that starts at x10.

Review Summary

It’s a lot harder to get that this bar is placed in an Antarctic environment compared to the first release, at least until you notice the iceberg in the background. The symbols land as ice cubes as well, which is another reminder that this is not your usual tropical beach party. The Turbo Spin option is something we wouldn’t mind seeing in other games as well, as it’s fun to speed things up like that. It also saves you time if you want to trigger the bonus round without purchasing it.

The pace of the game is excellent even without the turbo spins feature, and you get plenty of interesting action from the Cool Reel. This makes the base game highly entertaining, at least when things happen to go your way. The multiplier that kicks in during the bonus round increases your likelihood of cracking the 25,000x potential, but the feature can be short-lived when you’re out of luck. The 94 % RTP might be a dealbreaker for some.
