Tiki Runner 2 - Doublemax Review
This is a follow-up release. It’s easy to see why they choose the original to create what is essentially a copycat effort, as the progressive multiplier system was already in place. All they had to do was implement the DoubleMax system, and suddenly the whole thing is that much more exciting.
A wild is now generated in a random empty cascading position, and the doubling win multiplier can do serious damage to the tune of 20,000x your stake in all stages of the game. Consecutive Cascades will also eventually lead to the bonus round, and the Encore Mode reduces the bonus hit rate from 1 in 240 spins to 1 in 110 spins. Visually, there hasn’t been much of an upgrade though, but this release is vastly superior to the original installment.
Tiki Runner 2 DoubleMax Features
The 3 Tiki Mask premium symbols, and the top-tier game logo symbol, pay between 2.5 and 10 x your stake for 5 of a kind wins. There is also a Wild symbol that steps in for all regular pay symbols to help complete winning combinations, and the wild holds no value of its own. The wild is spawned in empty cascading positions, and it moves to a random position per cascade.
All winning symbols are removed via the Cascading Wins mechanic, and new and/or existing symbols drop down to fill the gaps. A wild is also generated in one of the positions, making it easier to keep the winning streak going. The Tiki runner character seen below the grid moves one step to the right per cascade, lighting up a torch each time. This moves you closer to the bonus round, and it also activates the DoubleMax system.
The DoubleMax feature doubles the global win multiplier per consecutive cascade also in the base game, and it comes with no upper limit. The DoubleMax multiplier resets to x1 between spins in the base game though, but not in the bonus round.
Speaking of, you trigger the Bonus Round with 7, 10, 12 or 15 free spins, respectively, when you get 5, 6, 7 or 8+ cascading wins in a row. The DoubleMax multiplier does not reset between free spins, as already mentioned, and it will thus only keep building to unknown heights. You win 3, 7, 10, 12 or 15 extra spins, respectively, when you land 4, 5, 6, 7 or 8 cascades in a row.
The bonus round triggers once every 240 spins on average, but activating Encore Mode gives you a bonus round hit rate of 1 in 110 spins on average instead. This ante bet option costs 50 % more per spin though, but it’s something to consider. The 2 positions on the cascading wins trail closest to where the free spins start is changed to award a respin if you get there. This gives you extra chances of getting all the way to the bonus round.
Finally, non-UK players, and anyone eligible, may purchase the bonus round directly via the Buy Bonus feature. This will set you back 100x your stake, and the Tiki runner character is then moved to the 7 free spins torch. You get 1 respin that may or may not improve the amount of free spins you win above the minimum of 7.
The 200 Spins Tiki Runner 2 DoubleMax Experience
The Tiki runner dude teased us to the max a few times in the base game section of the 4:48-minute highlights video, so we ended up purchasing the bonus round at the 2:16-mark. We got lucky and ended up with 12 free spins for starters, and you can see it all for yourself by hitting the play button below.
Review Summary
Visually, the Polynesian Tiki theme is just less exciting, and there is something a bit flimsy and amateurish about the visual presentation, at least in comparison. The DoubleMax feature saves the day though, as it is a highly exciting and potentially very lucrative multiplier system.
We soon noticed that once you’ve racked up a solid multiplier in the bonus round, the game tends to go into “dead spin mode” most of the time and stay there. That being said, winning up to 20,000x your stake is ever possible, and a doubling multiplier can moon quicker than you may think when this thing is in the mood. The original Tiki Runner was never a huge success, and it will be interesting to see how far the bolted on DoubleMax system can take this release.
