Our Verdict
The original The Dog House, and not least the Megaways follow-up, have both been massive hits, so we expected nothing less than tons of new installments coming along like pearls on a string. Pragmatic has a pragmatic approach to all this, after all, and they seldom, if ever, let a smash hit go to waste. However, I wish they had put in a bit more effort to make The Dog House Royal Hunt stand out more.
Instead, what you get is close to a reskin of the first game, albeit with a somewhat beefed-up potential and a new bonus buy option. There are tons of things could’ve done to make this a more worthwhile release, but they’ve decided to play it safe, as they many times do. The pups are as adorable as ever though, dressed up like royalty for a hunt you never see anything of, which is hardly surprising either.
If you like the original game, The Dog House Royal Hunt is a good alternative, not least if you’re into the whole bonus buy thing. It’s a bit lame that you cannot trigger the Super bonus round organically, though, which is a missed opportunity to properly justify this new installment. The 500x price tag is steep and certain jurisdictions are excluded from this brand new bonus round option, which admittedly offers juicy wild multipliers.

You either land a bunch of these or the feature is usually a miss with little to show for it. However, things do heat up if you purchase the super version. I still prefer the Megaways version myself, and I hope the next installment breaks new ground instead of regurgitating the same old, same old.
