Scroll of Dead Review
Savvy players can smell a new ‘Book slot’ by the single word ‘of’ in the title. The ancient Egypt visual style centers around Shai, the god of destiny, and you’re in for a highly volatile ride, as is usually the case in this genre.
The premium symbols are worth between 50x and 500x for 5OAK wins, and you can place bets between 10p and £100 per spin. The RTP is customizable, which is something to be aware of, and everything revolves around the expanding symbol bonus round. It’s not only the symbols that expand here though, but also the reel set. It goes from 5x3 in the base game, to 6x3 during the free spins, and the 7,500x potential makes this installment stand out from most other Ra clones.
Scroll of Dead slot Features
The usual book scatter/wild has been replaced by a scarab wild/scatter in this game, and as a wild it can land anywhere to step in for regular pay symbols. This helps you form winning combos, but it’s the scatter function you really want.
Land 3, 4 or 5 scarab scatters anywhere at the same time, and you’re first awarded a scatter win of 2x, 20x or 200x your stake, respectively. This also triggers the Bonus Round with 8 free spins, and you’ll then see the 6th reel being unlocked before the special expanding symbol is chosen.
A random regular pay symbol is thus chosen to become the expanding symbol during the bonus round. This symbol will expand to cover the entire reel whenever you land enough to trigger a win. The expanded win comes after the regular win calculation, and the special symbol does not need to land adjacent to create fully expanded payouts. Wilds cannot step in for the expanded symbol.
All base game wins can be gambled in a classic double or nothing fashion. This is totally optional of course, and it’s all about guessing the correct card color or suit. This first doubles your payout, while the latter quadruples it. You can gamble each win up to 5 times.
The 200 Spins Scroll of Dead slot Experience
This reviewer didn’t used to be a huge fan of the whole ‘Book slot’ copycat hype, but we’ve since warmed up to the phenomena. We therefore very much looked forward to testing this follow-up release, and we’ve put together a brief highlights video of our test run, as usual. Check out how we fared by hitting the play button.
Review Summary
This is far from our first ‘Book of’ rodeo, to put it mildly, but it’s become fascinating to follow the development of the series, and see what new twist developers come up with. Scroll of Dead does not deviate all that much from the original ‘Book slot’ formula, but the 6th reel that opens up during the bonus round makes a big difference.
It gives the standard 5,000x potential a 50 % boost, which means that you can win up to 7,500x your stake on a single spin. Landing solid base game payouts is certainly possible also, at least in theory, but we all know the likelihood is much higher during the expanding symbol free spins round.
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Classic ‘Book of’ style visuals | Beware of customizable RTP ranges |
| 6th reel opens up in the bonus round | |
| Bonus round w/ chosen expanding symbol | |
| Win up to 7,500x your stake |
If you appreciate Scroll of Dead slot you should also try:
- is a follow-up game that’s quite similar to the game at hand. You can pay extra per spin to play with a 6th reel all the time, and the bonus round comes with a chosen expanding symbol. With the 6th reel active, you can win up to 10,180x your stake.
- is the predecessor to the game at hand, and the bonus round comes with unlimited retriggers. Each retrigger awards a new chosen symbol, and this means that all symbols can become expanding if you get enough retriggers. The volatility is high, and you get the standard 5,000x max win.
- is basically a beefed up version of the original game behind it all. The RTP has been increased significantly since the first version, and you can now win up to 10,035x your stake. If you want to go back to the roots, this is as good as it gets.
