Ryze Review
Ryze opens with a classic fairytale intro, complete with turning book pages and a voice narrating the backstory in what sounds like Old Norse or Icelandic. It’s hardly understandable for most players, nor is it meant to be. However, it establishes that the dragon creature, Ryze, is fond of gold and guards his treasure-filled lair with deadly fire breath if necessary. The soundtrack seems rooted in Norse culture as well, setting the stage for an encounter with ancient forces and untold riches.
This 6x6 grid slot boasts a cluster pays winning system, and you need 5 to 15+ matching symbols or coins adjacent to each other anywhere in view to create a win. Bets range from €0.2 to €100 per spin, which caters to most player types. You get the avalanche gravity mechanic, where winning symbols are removed and new ones tumble in place to potentially create further wins. Coin symbols display their value and merge into a single coin of that value after each cluster coin payout.
Winning pay symbol clusters award payouts between 0.05x and 0.75x for 5 matching symbols, and between 2x and 15x for 15+ symbols. Each cluster win also generates a multiplier wild that spawns in a random position. These wilds remain on the grid for the duration of the bonus round and increase their multiplier value with every win they contribute to in all stages. Triggering the super bonus round makes coin symbols persistent as well, and it can trigger directly from the base game or from within the regular free spins round.
Ryze is a high volatility slot game, meaning fluctuations in your bankroll are to be expected in longer sessions, and you can win up to 10,000x your stake. Playing with the maximum bet size gives you a stated max win of €1,000,000. The 94 % RTP is well below the typical average for online slots though, which, according to our research and stats, hovers around 95-96 %. If you don’t mind this minor drawback too much, Ryze slot offers solid entertainment with plenty of tumble wins action in all stages.
Ryze Features
Ryze game is no exception. Let's take a closer look under the hood, and explore the mechanics you will encounter in more detail.
Avalanche Wins
All symbols involved in a win explode, allowing existing and new symbols to drop to fill the gaps. The symbols tumble into place via the gravity mechanic, and the process repeats as long as you keep winning.
Sticky Increasing Multiplier Wilds
Winning pay symbols (not coins) spawn an x1 Multiplier Wild in one of the empty positions after being removed. The wild multiplier increases by +1 per cluster win it partakes in, and spawns in a new, random empty position per avalanche.
Multiplier wild values are added together before boosting the win if part of the same cluster, and wilds substitute for any symbol except burst and bonus symbols. When part of the same win, the multiplier wilds merge with their values multiplied together. The merged multiplier wild symbol then spawns in a new position.
Coin Wins
The bright orange Coin symbols land with cash prize bet multipliers displayed as numbers on the symbol. Winning Coin clusters pay their combined value before merging into a single coin with the same value.
This triggers the avalanche gravity mechanic as all but the merged coin is removed from the grid. Multiplier wild values are added together to boost coin wins if more than one multiplier wild partakes in the win.
Burst
The special Burst symbol is activated at the end of a round, transforming itself and all adjacent symbols into a matching pay symbol or coins. Only regular pay symbols are affected by this transformation, not coins, bursts, bonus symbols, or multiplier wilds.
Ryze Free Spins
The bonus symbol is a glass sphere filled with liquid gold, and the Bonus Round is unlocked when it reaches one of the key mold symbols below the grid. You start with 7 free spins, and multiplier wilds are not removed between spins like in the base game. You win +3 extra spins when a bonus symbol reaches the bottom of the grid.
You win 7 Super Free Spins if the bonus symbol reaches a Super Key Mould position, either in the base game or during the regular bonus round. In the Super Bonus Round, both multiplier wilds and coin symbols are persistent for the duration of the feature.
Ryze Bonus Buy (not UK)
Eligible players will find the X-iter Bonus and Feature Buy menu on the left-hand side, and it comes with the following options in Ryze slot:
- Bonus Hunt - pay 2x your stake to more than 3x your bonus or super bonus chances.
- Wild Concoction - pay 10x your stake to get a multiplier wilds spin.
- Coin Burst - pay 25x your stake to get a Burst symbol (and all Burst symbols make coins).
- Bonus Round - pay 100x your stake for the regular bonus round to trigger.
- Super Bonus Round - pay 500x your stake for this feature.

Our Verdict
Ryze clearly draws inspiration from featuring a similar gravity avalanche win system that creates a satisfying cascade of tumbling symbols per drop. The accompanying chain sound enhances the experience, making it visually and aurally engaging as symbols tumble into place to fuel your winning streaks. There’s nothing new to see here in this regard, but it’s still nice to see expand their range of gravity mechanic slots in a new direction.
The dragon himself is reminiscent of Gollum from The Lord of the Rings, clutching his gold with a greedy yet somewhat endearing demeanor. While not particularly intimidating, he adds personality to the game as he observes the action unfold. Extended avalanche sequences can take their sweet time to play out, even with the turbo switched on, but the hypnotic effect of watching the wins accumulate keeps things interesting.
The relatively low symbol values mean that achieving substantial wins relies on the increasing win multiplier symbols. With a max value of only 15x your stake for a 15+ winning cluster, smaller wins are frequent unless boosted by the wild multipliers. However, it helps that multiplier wilds merge when part of the same cluster win, while their values are multiplied together. This is not only fun to watch, but it can also build towards significant wins.
While I initially felt that the coin symbols seemed a bit unnecessary, their ability to merge into higher-value coins after each win adds an interesting dynamic. Combined with the multiplier wilds, they too can lead to decent payouts. However, as expected, the bonus round remains the key to unlocking the game's true potential. Persistent multiplier wilds can build up to massive payouts, especially in the Super bonus round where coin symbols also become persistent.
Despite its solid range of features and well-crafted presentation, Ryze slot is not up there with the best we’ve seen from in recent years. I’ve almost gotten used to the below-average 94 % RTP by now, but it’s still a sore point. The 10,000x max win, while solid enough, is becoming a tad boring. Mixing up their math models a bit would perhaps be a good idea, instead of recycling them. Also, implementing RTP ranges to offer a higher top-tier RTP would probably make many players happy.
