Pirots Review
This game has a creative design, and it takes you by surprise. It revolves around pirate parrots collecting adjacent gems of the same color. This is how you win, and the gems can be upgraded to become more valuable. It's a charming game with pirate parrot antics.
The backdrop is a treasure island, and the CollectR™ mechanic fills a modifier meter. There are 6 different features that can be triggered this way, and you can get more than one at the same time. The meter doesn’t reset between spins in the bonus round, and the grid size never resets either. The potential is solid, but the RTP is fixed.
Pirots Game Features
The 4 pirate parrots land together with gems of 4 different colors that correspond to each bird. The Bird symbols move around to collect the same color gemstones, which award wins, in addition to feature symbols. However, they only collect symbols that are adjacent in any direction (up, down, left, or right). The gems start at level 1, but they can be upgraded. Level 1 gems pay between 0.05 to 0.25 x your stake, while top level gems are worth between 3 and 15 x your stake.
All collected symbols except bonus symbols are also collected in a meter after being collected as a win. A feature is triggered when you fill the meter, and 3 gems transform into feature symbols when you cannot collect any more symbols. You can get multiple feature triggers at the same time. Adjacent birds can sometimes swap positions at the end of a collection sequence, if this means that the gem/feature symbol collection can continue.
The Feature Symbols come in 6 different forms, and here’s an overview of what you can expect:
- Wild - steps in for any gem symbol at the current value level.
- Transform Symbol - turns all adjacent gems into the same type as the bird collecting them, or into feature symbols.
- White Upgrade Symbol - upgrades gems of the same collecting bird, and if the gems are already maxed out another gem type will be upgraded.
- Multicolored Upgrade Symbol - upgrades all present gems.
- Coin Symbol - pays the prize value displayed on each coin (up to 500x).
- Bomb - are collected and explode at the end of a collection sequence. This removes all gem symbols around the bomb, which causes a redrop. Birds are scared away too, but will reappear in new positions. This expands the grid up to 8x8 at best.
The Free Drops feature triggers from collecting 3 bonus symbols, and this awards 5 free spins. Whatever grid size you have achieved is carried over, and the symbol collection, grid size, and gem prize level does not reset for as long as the feature lasts. You win extra free drops if you collect 3 bonus symbols during the bonus round.
The X-iter Feature Buy menu is available in some jurisdictions, but not in the UK for sure. It comes with 5 options in this game, and these are as follows:
- Bonus Hunt - pay 3x your stake go play with a 4x higher chance of triggering the bonus round.
- Feature Bonanza - pay 10x the stake to get a drop where a full symbol collection is guaranteed, which triggers the feature award.
- Maximum Grid Size - pay 25x your stake to get a drop where the grid is maxed out at 5x8.
- Bonus - pay 100x your stake to get the bonus round.
- Super Bonus - pay 500x your stake to get the bonus round with a maxed out 8x8 grid size. All upgrade symbols also upgrade all gems in the super bonus round.
The 200 Spins Pirots Game Experience
You get a good taste of the base game, before we purchase the Super Bonus Round close to the 2-minute mark. The feature plays out for the remainder of the 5:33 minute highlights video, and you can see for yourself how we fared by hitting the play button below.
Review Summary
It's an original and enjoyable game. It’s good fun seeing these quirky pirate parrots move around to eat gem symbols, and the pace is excellent. We were charmed from the get-go, and there is plenty to look forward to also in the base game.
Filling the meter isn’t always easy though, and there are plenty of dead spins between anything significant happening in this game. When things start to happen you sometimes get the “ketchup effect” though, and when the feature meter is filled it’s definitely game on. Getting only 5 free spins isn’t all that much, but the bonus round will often last longer than you might think. We have no complaints about the potential, but the RTP is sadly well into deal-breaker territory for many players.
