Merlins Revenge Megaways Review
The range of tales has been full of twists and turns so far, and Merlin's Revenge Megaways comes with the subtitle ‘Morgana Falling’. It’s a follow-up, and the main attraction is still a bonus round that’s all about collecting symbols to keep yourself going and upgrade the minimum number of win ways.
The regular RTP is more or less the same, but the bonus buy RTP is sliced down in this release. You get the cascading wins mechanic in this version though, which can come in handy many times, and the Merlin’s Magic modifier comes in addition to the max megaways and mystery symbols features. The 28,988x potential is boosted significantly, making this follow-up well worth checking out.
Merlin's Revenge Megaways Slot Features
The premium symbols pay between 1.5 and 10 x your stake for 6 of a kind wins, and you also have a Wild symbol that steps in for all regular pay symbols to help complete wins. The Wild does not hold any value of its own, and it can appear on reels 2-5 only. All winning symbols are removed via the Cascading mechanic, and new and/or existing symbols drop down to fill the gaps. This process repeats indefinitely as long as you keep winning.
You can land Mystery Symbols anywhere on the grid, and these transform into a randomly selected pay symbol type after they land. You can get mystery symbols both in the base game and in the bonus round. In addition to that, there are a few randomly triggered modifiers:
- Merlin’s Magic - triggers at random times on non-winning spins only, and it will either change the spin to a winner or activate the bonus round.
- Max Megaways - triggers at random times, and it gives you a maxed out grid with 117,649 ways to win.
You trigger the Free Spins round when 3, 4, 5, or 6 scatters land anywhere in the same cascading sequence, and this awards 8, 10, 14 or 20 free spins, respectively. You can choose to gamble for more spins, up to 20 at best, but you risk losing the whole feature and you only win +1 extra spin per gamble wheel spin.
The bonus round is all about collecting symbols to win extra spins and increase the minimum number of win ways. The collected symbol starts at the bottom of the paytable, and you’ll work your way up towards the top. Here’s an overview of how it works:
- Collect 20 9 symbols to get +4 extra spins.
- Collect 20 10 symbols to get +4 extra spins and 500 minimum win ways.
- Collect 15 J symbols to get +4 extra spins and 500 minimum win ways.
- Collect 15 Q symbols to get +3 extra spins and 1,000 minimum win ways.
- Collect 15 K symbols to get +3 extra spins and 1,000 minimum win ways.
- Collect 15 A symbols to get +3 extra spins and 2,000 minimum win ways.
- Collect 10 Blue Orb symbols to get +2 extra spins and 5,000 minimum win ways.
- Collect 10 Green Crystal symbols to get +2 extra spins and 10,000 minimum win ways.
- Collect 8 Pink Swirl symbols to get +1 extra spins and 50,000 minimum win ways.
- Collect 8 Merlin symbols to get +1 extra spins and a maxed out 117,649 win ways.
If available in your jurisdiction, you can purchase the bonus round directly from the in-game menu. Simply hit the Bonus Buy button, and you can pay 80x your stake for the feature. This awards at least 3 scatters on the spin that follows, and the bonus round triggers organically 1 in 320 spins. The bonus buy RTP is 96.5 %.
The 200 Spins Merlin's Revenge Megaways Slot Experience
You get to see some smaller base game wins, before we purchase the bonus round at 1:25 into the 6:46-minute highlights video. This gave us 5 triggering scatters and 14 FS, but we still decided to try our luck in the gamble feature. This gave us 15 starting free spins, and you can see for yourself how we fared by hitting the play button below.
Review Summary
We liked the soundtrack and the visuals in the original better, as the black tiles don’t go too well together with the dark backdrop. You never get to see any kind of revenge either, but Merlin's Revenge: Morgana Falling Megaways is still a solid follow-up with some twists that fans will probably appreciate. There are some drawbacks too however, as you get no cash prizes when you level up in the bonus round this time, for example.
The bonus buy RTP was solid in the first game, but the 28,988x potential is almost 3x as high. Adding cascading wins to the mix can be quite helpful, and Merlin’s Magic can trigger the bonus round when you least expect it. You get less free spins in this version also, but getting extra spins from the added gamble wheel didn’t seem all that hard. The changes might be somewhat subtle, but they add up to a different experience built around a similarly nerve-racking bonus round system.
