Lion's Hoard Review
The slightly tilted 5x4 metallic reel grid is set in a giant vault of some kind, and the dimly lit room is overflowing with so many gold coins that it looks like a money bin. There is nothing cartoonish about the visual presentation though, and it’s a creation with plenty of moving parts and ‘3D’ mechanics.
Lion head meters sit above all reels except the middle reel, and the main goal is to collect diamond scatters to fill the 4 sockets per reel to trigger the Diamond Mystery Reels feature. You will need extra scatters on top of that to build reel multipliers to win anything of significance though, and this is a highly volatile release with a decent 7,150x potential.
Lion’s Hoard Slot Features
You will land White Diamond Scatters on all reels except reel 3, and these are collected in the respective Lion meters above each reel. The meters start with 2 out of 4 Diamond sockets pre-filled, and filling all 4 sockets turns the relevant reel into a Diamond Reel.
The Diamond Reel contains nothing but locked Mystery Stones, and these reveal a randomly selected matching pay symbol on the next spin. The mystery stone reel remains in place until at least one symbol has been part of a winning combo, and the meter then resets with all 4 slots being empty.
Diamond Scatters can still land on top of the Mystery Stones, and this increases the reel multiplier by +1 per scatter that lands. The multiplier applies to all win lines the mystery reel is part of, and multiple multiplier reels will multiply their respective values up to x96 at the most.
You can land Blue Diamond Scatters on the middle reel only, and this special symbol fills all Diamond sockets instantly. Diamond Reels that are already active get +1 added to their respective multiplier value.
The Mystery Reels/Stones can sometimes reveal a full 1x4 stack of wilds, and these merge into a fully expanded Super Wild. This full reel wild then becomes sticky until it’s part of a winning combo, after which everything resets as usual.
The 200 Spins Lion’s Hoard Slot Experience
You get to see plenty of the Diamond Mystery reels feature in our 4 and a half minute highlights video, and around 1:30 we land a Blue Diamond on the middle reel. This was the ‘heart drop’ moment of our session, and it led to a decent payout. Hit the play button below to get a nice overview of what this game is about.
Review Summary
The audiovisual presentation is excellent, and you can really feel the mechanics of the game. Beneath all the mechanics is a rather brutal math model though, and there is no bonus round to look forward to either. Still, the Diamond Mystery Reels keep you somewhat entertained, while waiting for the big multiplying multiplier break.
The Blue Diamond is a heart-stopper when it lands, but even though reels 1, 2, 4 and 5 will reveal a new randomly chosen matching symbol until you win, the pesky middle reel can effectively block your hope for a full screen payout. That being said, without any multiplier action a full screen is worth only 100x your stake at the most anyway, so you need to rack up some serious juice to come close to cracking the 7,150x potential.
