Gator Gold Deluxe Gigablox Review

We still have the original Gator Gold Gigablox fresh in mind. We weren’t all that impressed by the somewhat bland visual presentation in the first game, and the only difference here is the new backdrop. Gator Gold Deluxe Gigablox comes with the same math model as the first game, so the only real upgrade is found in the feature department.

Getting so few free spins that you were almost forced to take your chances in the gamble feature was a problem in the original release, and we’re glad to see that this has been somewhat amended in this Deluxe version. The biggest change, however, is that the bonus round now comes with a symbol upgrade system in addition to multiplier wilds. We would hardly call the top-tier Golden Gator a “Super High Payer” though.

Gator Gold Deluxe Gigablox Features

You get at least 1 Gigablox reel per spin, and these come in sizes up to 4x4 at the most. All symbols, including wilds and free spin scatters, can land as Gigablox, and they count as 1x1 individual symbols no matter the size. The regular Gator Gold Wild steps in for all pay symbols to help complete winning combos, and it holds no value of its own. The animal premium symbols pay between 3.5 and 6 x your stake for 6-oak wins, with the Golden Gator throning at the top of the paytable.

You need at least 5 Free Spins scatters anywhere to trigger the Bonus Round, and each free spins symbol awards between 1 and 3 free spins. Each scatter you land during the feature awards extra spins, and the bonus round comes with x2 and x3 multiplier wilds. These can also land as Gigablox, but the multiplier is only applied once. If more than one multiplier wild is part of a win however, the respective multipliers will multiply with each other.

Before the bonus round starts you have the option of gambling for more free spins. You can keep gambling for more spins as long as you wish (+2 or +10 are the options), but your winning chances shrink per consecutive gamble. If you land on the red segment on the wheel, the bonus round is lost and you’re back in the base game.

The biggest change from the original release is the Upgrade symbol that comes into play during free spins. You need to collect 3 such Upgrade symbols to upgrade the lowest tier animal premium symbol to the next in the hierarchy. Each upgrade also awards +2 extra spins, and it’s possible to upgrade all the premium symbols to the top-tier Golden Gator symbol.

Review Summary

It’s a bit strange that a Deluxe version of their most successful Gigablox title would release so soon after the original was launched. We understand that they may want to “strike while the iron is hot”, but this upgraded version kind of makes the original obsolete. For one, it’s easier to get a more decent amount of free spins, which we like, and the gamble feature was thus more necessary in the original game. We would be careful with gambling for more than +2 spins once, and even that is risky.

Both versions are high risk/reward installments with a solid 20,000x potential, but the big difference in Gator Gold Gigablox Deluxe is the symbol Upgrade feature. It’s a decent bolted-on upgrade, but in practice the animal symbol values aren’t all that different from top to bottom. The multiplying multiplier wilds seemed to land less often because of this feature, which is something to consider when you make your pick.
