This studio has proven that they are not afraid to be creative. Fortress Charge looks more like a side-scrolling adventure than a slot game. Gameplay involves a Hero landing on the first reel and moving one step right.

If the hero encounters an enemy, a battle occurs, and a reward is given if the hero wins. Treasure chests, weapons, and multipliers can also be found. The goal is for the Hero to reach the Fortress on reel 6 for a larger prize.

Up to four multipliers can be collected, multiplying your total win by a significant amount. Animations and sound are well-done, but the volatility will test your patience. The Reel Quest charge is the only feature, but you get items to help you. Big wins are possible, but rare.

Enemy symbols are in the same value range, but increase in value via a multiplier proportional to the reel. Treasure chests can also award bonus wins, but the fortress is the main target. The paytable looks like this:

What are the bonus features?

• The Dwarf hero will crush the Boulder obstacle
• The Knight hero will club the Scorpion and Snake enemies

Here is what you’re up against:

• The Ogre enemy will crush the Elf, Dwarf and Knight heroes
• The Scorpion enemy will win over the Beast, Dragon and Dwarf heroes
• The Spikes trap will kill the Beast, Elf, Dwarf and Knight heroes
• The Boulder obstacle will stop the Beast, Dragon, Elf and Knight heroes
• The Snake enemy will terminate the Beast, Dragon, Elf and Dwarf heroes

Special items can change the outcome. On lucky spins, you may encounter only multipliers, items, empty roads, and the fortress. Here's an overview of the weapons:

• Fire Potion – burns up the spikes trap
• Spear – kills the Ogre enemy
• Wooden shield – blocks the sting from the Scorpion enemy
• Shiny shield – helps you defeat the Scorpion and Snake enemies
• Magic wand – does away with all foes, traps and obstacles

A randomly triggered fireball can also help, removing obstacles or foes.

Free spins in Fortress Charge

There is no free spins feature or bonus round, but it might have been too much with everything else. However, a bonus game would have been a nice addition, since the Reel Quest feature is the base game.

The Spins Fortress Charge Experience

It's refreshing to see developers who create new games. We were eager to start with our test run.

The game can easily dish out dead spins before you land a hero. Our most valuable asset was the Elf Hero. She charged all the way to the fortress on the first try.

She grabbed a multiplier, and we won. The other heroes seemed less successful, being defeated by the Ogre or boulder. We relied on the Elf, as she kept pulling through.

She kept getting multipliers, giving us wins regularly. The biggest win came from the Knight Hero. We broke even.

Review Summary

Innovation is always appreciated. A game like Fortress Charge won't appeal to everyone, but you should try it. The novelty of the gameplay is the biggest attraction, as the game lacks a bonus round, free spins, or bonus game.

The Reel Quest can be seen as a bonus, but it's the base game. The disclosure of the Fortress prize can be a mistake. You know that you stand to win only a small amount, if your Hero makes it to the Fortress, which isn't often.

It would be better if the Fortress was a mystery prize, keeping players in anticipation. Or, the Fortress prize could have been bigger and harder to reach. As it is now, the motivation decreases. Seeing heroes get knocked down is discouraging, as it takes spins to land one.
