Dead Mans Trail Review
With a visually pleasing misty harbour as the backdrop, Dead Man's Trail moves along with a smooth pace and plenty of shady characters. The soundtrack is just as eerie as you might expect from a somewhat spooky pirate game, and occasional Coin Wins and wild wins will top you up as you wait to trigger the Trail Bonus Game.
This game feature has a similar modifier makeover. With 11 modifiers in total, you’re in for quite a nerve-racking treasure hunt, and the 50,000x potential is also similar to the obvious source of inspiration. This is a very strong release, but the lackluster base game is holding it back from total awesomeness.
Dead Man's Trail Slot Features
The premium symbols award between 5x and 30x your stake for 5 on a payline, while the wild symbol is worth 60x your stake. The ‘W’ wilds step in for all regular pay symbols as is usually the case, and this can help you complete winning combinations.
The Coin feature is the only thing that spices up the base game, and you will see coins land with random multiplier values attached. You need to land coins on at least 3 different reels at the same time to collect the sum of the coin values as a win.
The big highlight is undoubtedly the Dead Man’s Trail Bonus Game, and the feature is triggered by landing at least 3 bonus scatters anywhere in sight. You’ll get a bird’s eye view of a treasure island complex, and it comes with a board game style trail with a few detours along the way around the map.
A random number between 1 and 9 determines how far your pawn is moved along the trail, and you will keep going around and around until you hit a skull & daggers ‘End Tile’. These end tiles are created after the pawn leaves a regular tile or a Mystery Chest on its way around the map, and the feature ends if you land on an ‘End Tile’.
The Normal Tiles come with random cash prizes that are collected, and the Start Tile triggers a Reset Modifier (see below). Mystery Chest Tiles award 1 random modifier action of 11 possible, and these are as follows:
- Scout - adds +100 to +1,000 to a randomly chosen Normal Tile.
- One-Eye - multiplies the value of 2 to 4 random normal tiles with between x2 and x5.
- Commander - adds +3 to +5 to all Normal Tiles.
- Collector - collects all normal tile values and adds it to the total.
- Collect & Command - collects all normal tiles values and adds it to all normal tiles and to the win total.
- Reset - replaces all End Tiles with Normal Tiles.
- Super Reset - replaces all End Tiles with Mystery Chests.
- Coin Win - adds a random win between 25x and 50x to your total.
- Persistent Scout - same as above, but this one triggers at the end of every turn.
- Persistent One-Eye - same as above, but triggers at the end of every turn.
- Persistent Commander - same as above, but triggers at the end of every turn.
Non-UK players can purchase the Dead Man’s Trail Bonus Game from the in-game Bonus Buy option. This buy feature might not be available in all jurisdictions, but it will set you back 100x your stake if it’s available. Buying the feature increases the RTP from 96.29 % to 98 %.
The 200 Spins Dead Man's Trail Slot Experience
We grinded along for a while, until we hit a decent coin win. This was when our luck finally turned, as we trigger the Bonus Trail game right after. This happens around 1:23 into the almost 4-minute highlights video, and you can see for yourself how we fared by hitting the play button below.
Review Summary
With Dead Man's Trail, the game provider is doing the same for the Bonus Trail feature as their smash hit did for the Hold & Respin feature. Even the math model is similar, offering a rock solid 50,000x potential and 98 % theoretical returns if you purchase the feature (not for UK players). Perhaps a ‘bonus-centric’ spin-off release is already in the works, we don’t know, but we sure hope so.
We’ve tested countless bonus trails over the years, but few are as fun and, dare we say, as addictive as this. Just like in MT2, you need to be lucky with the modifiers to win big, and up to 10,000x is the most you can win from a single “Normal Tile”. The base game could perhaps have been made a bit more interesting though, as occasional mediocre coin wins doesn’t really contain very much entertainment value.
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Base game Coin win feature | Bonus Buy not for UK players |
| Bonus Trail w/ 11 modifiers | Base game is a bit of a grind |
| Win up to 50,000x your stake | |
| 98 % RTP Bonus Buy for 100x |
If you love Dead Man's Trail Slot you should also try:
Another game feature has 9 modifier symbols, including 3 persistent ones, and you can win up to 50,000x your stake. The bonus buy option comes with a 98 % RTP also here (not for UK players).
Another pirate-themed game comes with plenty of wild respin features. You can unlock different islands as you play. There is even a treasure hunt trail, albeit a more standard one than in the game at hand, and you stand to win up to 12,955x your stake.
Another game is based on another famous release, but this one is focused on the hold-and-win style bonus round only. You get to play with regular stakes, and the feature triggers around every 5 to 10 spins. It plays out like in the original, but with a 98 % RTP and a reduced 5,000x potential.
