Cygnus 3 Review
The Cygnus series started out in Egypt, and Cygnus 2 took us to an observatory from medieval times. Cygnus 3 comes with a grid that’s placed in the middle of the Colosseum at night, and you’ll see the Cygnus Wheel rotating against the starry backdrop above the reels. The Gravity mechanic makes the symbol drops tumble into place as usual, and Avalanche Wins expand the grid up to 6x8 with 262,144 ways to win.
Both multiplier wilds and multiplier symbols will accumulate per Avalanche sequence, and their respective multiplier values combine forces to boost your total win. The big highlight is the spin on the Cygnus Wheel, of course, and it can land you jackpot prizes up to £100,000. This is also how you trigger the Free Drops Bonus Round, where the multiplier symbols/wilds remain active and accumulate for the duration of the feature. The overall max win is 10,000x your stake, and you get a 94 % RTP.
Cygnus 3 Slot Features
The premium symbols pay between 0.4 and 10 x your stake for 6 of a kind wins, and winning symbols are removed via the Avalanche mechanic. Each consecutive win adds another row up to 8, which means that up to 262,144 ways to win are possible. The avalanche wins continue as long as you keep winning, even after the grid is maxed out at 6x8 reels. Symbols tumble into place via the Gravity mechanic as they drop.
You can land Multiplier Wilds and Multiplier Symbols, and their respective multiplier values are added together to boost the win. Multiplier wilds turn into regular multiplier symbols when part of a win, and multiplier symbols become wild again the first time they hit the bottom of the grid. Both symbols accumulate per avalanche win sequence, and everything resets between base game spins.
The Cygnus Wheel can be seen rotating in the starry sky above the grid, and you get a spin on this wheel when a Cygnus symbol finds its way to the leftmost column. The Cygnus Wheel gives you 1 of the 3 things, as follows:
- A smaller instant prize win of 5x, 10x, or 15x your stake.
- A jackpot of £1,000 (Sky), £10,000 (Star), or £100,000 (Cygnus).
- The Free Drops Bonus Round with 5 or 7 free drops.
Your jackpot chances increase the higher your bet level is.
The Free Drops Bonus Round comes with multiplier and multiplier wild symbols that remain in play at the bottom of the grid, and this means that the multiplier level keeps increasing the more such symbols you land. Multiplier symbols still turn wild the first time they hit the bottom, and you can trigger a spin on the Cygnus Wheel the same way as in the base game.
The X-iter Feature Buy Menu is available in some jurisdictions, but not in the UK for sure. It comes with the following 5 options this time:
- Bonus Hunt - pay 2x your stake per spin to double your Cygnus Wheel chances.
- Multiplier Wild - pay 10x your stake to get a multiplier wild of at least x5.
- Rising Multiplier Wild - pay 25x your stake to get a multiplier symbol that increases in value per Avalanche win.
- Cygnus Wheel - pay 100x your stake for a spin on the Cygnus Wheel.
- Super Cygnus Wheel - pay 500x your stake for a Cygnus Wheel spin with a Super Free Drops version of the bonus round. All multiplier symbols increase in value per avalanche win in this version of the bonus round.
The 200 Spins Cygnus 3 Slot Experience
You get a brief taste of the base game, before we purchase the Super Cygnus Wheel spin. The spin starts at 0:44 into the 3-minute highlights video, and it landed us 7 Super Drops. The super version of the bonus round plays out at 1:16 into the video, and you can check it all out for yourself by hitting the play button below.
Review Summary
The Cygnus series does come with a pleasantly mysterious and cosmic vibe, and that is certainly also the case for Cygnus 3. The Cygnus Wheel is a somewhat unexpected touch, and it blends nicely into the starry night backdrop. The usual Gravity and Avalanche mechanics are still going strong, and the base game is livened up by additive multiplier symbols and multiplier wilds. You can land solid payouts from this feature as well, and let’s not forget that rows are piled on to increase the number of win ways per consecutive avalanche.
This is true up to a certain point at least, as the grid maxes out at 6x8 reels with 262,144 ways to win. What truly makes this installment stick out, however, is the Cygnus Wheel. You can land jackpots up to £100,000, which is decent, but the downside is that you can also land smaller consolation prizes many times. It didn’t seem all that hard to trigger the free drops feature from the wheel though, which is good, but the max win has dropped. The 94 % RTP is another drawback, but Cygnus 3 is overall a solid installment that’s worth checking out.
