Chilli Heat Megaways Review
The original Chilli Heat has had great success, and the cheerful fiesta vibe is certainly carried over into this Megaways version. Visually, there has been somewhat of an upgrade, but you will still recognize the happy Mariachi musician and his charming chihuahua. The soundtrack sounds about the same, and it will probably put you in the mood for some tequila.
For some reason, it was decided to drop the bonus round altogether in this release, and focus solely on the enhanced Money Respins round. This would perhaps have worked better if the base game came with some features to keep the grind more interesting, but you do get the Ante Bet option to minimize the time you spend there. While the bright colors and festive atmosphere might cheer you up, a quick glance at the math model will probably bring you right back down to earth again.
Chilli Heat Megaways Features
The premiums pay between 1.5x and 10x your stake for 6 on a payline, and you have game logo wilds that can step in for all regular pay symbols. The wilds hold no value of their own, and they can only land on reels 2 to 5.
Each base game win triggers the Tumble feature, which removes all winning symbols from the grid. The gaps are then filled by existing or new symbols dropping down from above, and this process will repeat as long as you keep landing winning combinations.
You can switch on the Ante Bet option if you want to double your Money Respins bonus chances, and this will cost you 25 % more per spin. You need to land at least 6 Money Symbols anywhere in sight to trigger the hold-and-win style Respins feature, and these cash symbols come with random values attached.
The respins tally starts at 3, and all the triggering money symbols are sticky on the reels. Reel 1 and 6 are locked as the feature starts, and special modifier symbols can slide in on the top horizontal reel. New money symbols that land become sticky too, and this resets the Respins tally to 3 again. The special modifier symbols are as follows:
- Left-leaning padlock – unlocks reel 1.
- Right-leaning Padlock – unlocks reel 6.
- Up and down arrows – maxes out the reel below with 7 symbol positions.
- Circular down arrow – collects the value from all money symbols on the reel below, and adds it to the total.
- Square down arrow – collects the value from all money symbols on the entire grid, and adds it to the total.
- Circular X – applies a random multiplier of x2, x3, x5 or x10 to the money symbols on the reel below.
- Square X – applies a random multiplier of x2, x3, x5 or x10 to all money symbols on the entire grid.
Non-UK players can purchase the Respins round from the in-game bonus buy option. This will set you back 100x your stake, and you are then guaranteed to trigger the Money Respins feature with 6+ money symbols on the spin that follows.

Review Summary
The original Chilli Heat has, perhaps a bit unexpectedly, been a huge success, but fans will not necessarily dig this Megaways version. The bonus round is gone, and so are the Hold & Respin jackpots. The base game is basically screaming for some kind of modifier action to spice things up, as relying solely on the dynamic reels tumble wins engine is hardly enough to make players mouth water these days.
The Money Respins feature comes with plenty of modifier symbols, but don’t expect to see a lot of them most of the time. We are not exactly in territory here, and without plenty of modifier action your returns are bound to be mediocre at best. Some would say that the 5,000x potential is mediocre in and of itself, and it’s hard to disagree when most Megaways releases offer at least twice as much.
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Up to 200,704 Megaways & Tumble Wins | No base game features |
| Wilds can land on reels 2 to 5 | Beware of adjustable RTP ranges |
| Money Respins w/ 7 modifier symbols | |
| Win up to 5,000x your stake |
If you appreciate Chilli Heat Megaways you should also try:
Chilli Heat - is the highly popular original release, and it’s a bit more chill and laid-back with medium volatility and plenty of features. You get a money respins round here too, and it comes with jackpots up to 1,000x your stake. In addition, you have a bonus round with premiums only, and you can win up to 2,512x your stake.
Empty the Bank - is a highly entertaining and popular heist slot, and the Hold & Respin style bonus round comes with 8 special modifier symbols. These can expand the grid, award multipliers and crack the main vault for the top prize worth 10,000x your stake.
Money Cart 2 - is pretty close to the ultimate hold-and-win style game. You’ll hardly see the base game here, as the Respins feature is triggered all the time. You’ll benefit from 9 modifier symbols, a solid 98 % RTP and a decent 5,000x potential.
