Our Verdict
I've played many "Book of" slots over the years. It started with a very popular game, which made the randomly chosen expanding symbol famous. Many other developers have made their own versions since then. This game goes in a different direction, so it barely feels like a "book mechanic" slot at all.
It might be that adding "Book of" to the title is just a gimmick, but it could disappoint players when their expectations aren't met. The Book is still important in this game, but not as the scatter/wild symbol. The book's only job in Book of Monsters is to reveal the Fat Symbol, a feature borrowed from other games. Still, there's a lot to like about this game.
I appreciate that the Ante Bet stats are available this time. This is a good addition considering the lack of base game features, but it might be frustrating for UK players and others who can't use it. In my experience, the base game doesn't offer much, but random fat symbols do provide some decent wins.
That leads us to the bonus round, where most of the action happens in Book of Monsters. Growing the Fat symbol to large sizes happened often during my test, and it helps that all instances are collected, not just winning symbols. The extra free spins you get per level up help you keep going, and it's fun to watch the Fat symbol grow. The 5,000x win has a good hit rate and happens instantly if you grow the top monster to 7x7 during the feature. While it has similarities to other games, Book of Monsters offers fun gameplay with a good math model.
