Bomb Bonanza Review
The bearded prospector in Bomb Bonanza looks like he’s digging for gold in the main street of a town at first glance. At the very least he must’ve dropped some dynamite by accident, cause the 5x5 grid is situated in a large hole in the ground and he seems more than triggerhappy to light another fuse. A somewhat strange setting for a mining slot perhaps, but you're taken into the actual mine shaft in the bonus round.
We expect the unnamed prospector to throw some dynamite onto the grid once in a while, but that never actually happens. What you get instead is bomb wilds which can spread to increase in size at random times. The sizes are fixed per level in the 5-tier bonus round, and you can win up to 2,015x your stake. We’ve seen better mining installments for sure, not least from the provider themselves, but it plays okay on a rainy day.
Bomb Bonanza Slot Features
The premium symbols, with the prospector as the top-tier symbol, pay between 6 and 12 x your stake for 5 of a kind wins. The bomb Wild steps in for regular pay symbols to help complete wins, and it also pays 1x, 4x or 12x your stake for 3, 4 or 5 of a kind, respectively. Wilds can expand in the base game, to sizes 2x2, 3x3, 4x4 or 5x5, and they do so by spreading in any direction (up, down, left or right).
Landing the ‘Free Spin’ scatter symbol on reels 1, 3 and 5 triggers the Bonus Round, and this awards 6 free spins. The action takes place inside the mine, and you can now land gold nugget symbols. These are collected in a meter seen up to the right, and collected nuggets create a cascading effect on the grid.
Enough collected nuggets also level you up, which affects the size of spreading wilds and awards extra spins as follows:
- Level 2 (5 nuggets collected) - awards 2x2 wilds + 4 extra spins.
- Level 3 (5 new nuggets collected) - awards 3x3 wilds + 2 extra spins.
- Level 4 (5 new nuggets collected) - awards 4x4 wilds + 2 extra spins.
- Level 5 (3 new nuggets collected) - awards 5x5 wilds + 1 extra spin.
Just to be clear, at the starting default level wilds are always 1x1 in size. You need to level up to get larger spreading wilds, and each level guarantees the wild size as indicated above. On a final note, the bonus round triggers 1 in 178 spins on average.
The 200 Spins Bomb Bonanza Slot Experience
Nothing overly exciting happened until we suddenly landed a larger win out of the blue, and then we triggered the bonus round right after. The feature starts at 1:50 into the 4:38-minute highlights video, and we managed to keep it going for a while by leveling up several times. Review Summary
First of all, it’s kind of strange to have the base game mining grid set in the middle of the town’s main street, and having the bomb wilds actually explode was sorely missed. Other than that, the game has come up with a decent installment in the ever-popular mining slot genre. Don’t expect too much from the base game however, as only up to 600x is possible from a single spin anyway.
It’s important to note that the larger spreading wilds don’t necessarily spread in the actual game area. They can spread off the grid as well, which was kind of annoying, so it’s nothing like Push Gaming’s ‘Fat’ series in that regard. Leveling up in the bonus round is crucial, as you need those +4 extra spins and larger wilds to make a dent. It can be over in a blink if you don’t, and overall Bomb Bonanza is a decent shelf-filler with a somewhat weak 2,015x potential.
| Pros | Cons |

| 5-tier FS round w/ nugget collect system | Beware of customizable RTP ranges |
| Level up to get guaranteed wild sizes up to 5x5 |
