Our Verdict
It seems like the Big Bass train just keeps on rolling with no end in sight. With a new installment popping up every month, the partner is clearly reeling in the players. And who can blame them? These games are undeniably popular, drawing in fans like, well, fish to a lure. But while Big Bass Bonanza 3 Reeler does try to shake things up a bit, it ultimately ends up feeling a bit like the same old fishing trip, but with a few new bells and whistles.
I do appreciate that the partner finally decided to ditch the static background and give us a more dynamic underwater scene. However, I think this should have been implemented ages ago. It makes the experience more visually appealing, and I hope they continue this trend in future releases. I'm not so sure about the switch to a 3-reel grid though. It doesn't add anything positive to the gameplay, as it simply reduces the number of paylines.
Another thing that surprised me was the lower symbol values compared to the original Big Bass Bonanza. I would have thought they'd compensate for the smaller grid with higher values, but that's not the case. Of course, we all know the real money comes from the bonus round anyway, and thankfully, the hit rate for that is a decent 1 in 114 spins. Compared to the original, the 5,000x potential is an improvement. However, it's still dwarfed by some of the max wins we've seen in previous installments, like my favorite Big Bass Amazon Xtreme.
Ultimately, Big Bass Bonanza 3 Reeler feels more like a gimmick release than anything substantial. The super bonus round, which is the only truly new feature, is locked behind the Bonus Buy option, making it inaccessible to many players. Personally, I'd rather stick with the original or some of the other follow-up games. To keep this series from getting stale, the partner needs to make more drastic changes to the core concept. Making the base game more fun is also a good idea.
