Zeus: Thunder Reels Review
This game presents a fairly standard experience, and there is little that is new. The core mechanic revolves around turning reels wild by collecting symbols, with adjustments made to increase the likelihood of a full screen of wilds during the bonus round. However, achieving this only yields a 240x your stake payout.
Compared to the potential of 5,000x or more found in many similar slots, it's difficult to understand the design choice. Many comparable games offer a stronger math model, better visuals, and more engaging gameplay. Therefore, it's hard to see how this game will remain popular for long.
Zeus: Thunder Reels Features
The first thing you’ll notice in this game is the blue lightning icons above the reels. These icons become activated when you land special Lightning bonus symbols. The third and middle reel comes with 3 lightning icons, while reel 2 and 4 come with 2 icons and reel 1 and 5 come with only 1 icon to trigger.
This indicates how many lightning symbols you need to collect on each reel before the Wild Reel feature is triggered. You can turn more than 1 reel wild at the same time, and you will then see the remaining reels spin. The wild reels will remain in place for as many spins as the number of lightning icons you need to collect to trigger it. This means 3 spins for the middle reel, 2 for reels 2 and 4 and 1 spin for reels 1 and 5.
Things play out a little differently during the bonus round however. Now you will see only 1 lightning icon above each reel. This means that you will trigger the Wild Reel feature every time you land a Lightning bonus symbol, but the Wild Reel will only remain in place for 1 spin. You trigger the bonus round by landing 3 temple scatters on reels 1, 3 and/or 5, and this gives you 15 free spins.
The 200 Spins Zeus: Thunder Reels Experience
We had a few Wild Reel wins during the base game, and these were significant enough to include in the highlights video you can check out below. The bonus round is triggered at 0:40 into the video, if you don’t feel like watching the base game grind too much. We had plenty of wild reels for sure, but how much we won you’ll have to see for yourself.
Review Summary
Zeus: Thunder Reels doesn’t bring anything new to the table, and it’s really all about the Wild Reels feature. These can be somewhat helpful in the base game, as they pay the same as the highest value Zeus symbol. You will get so many wild reels in the bonus round that it can seem hard to believe that it doesn’t lead to bigger payouts.
This is due to the stingy math model, of course, as this game comes with medium to high volatility. Combine that with a rather weak max win potential of only 813x your stake, and you’ve basically ruined what could have been a decent game. To top it all off, the game’s RTP of 95.42 % is also below the “magic” 96 % limit. Coming up with an original theme is not always easy, but there is just no excuse for a weak math model.
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Collect symbols to trigger Wild Reels | Medium to high volatility and 813x max win potential |
| Bonus round with Wild Reels | RTP of 95.42 % is below average |
| 1x2 stacked Zeus symbol |
