Troll Hunters Slot Features
Drop symbols
Troll Hunters does not employ regular reels and instead symbols drop from above to fill a 5x5 grid. When 3 or more matching symbols appear in a row, either horizontally or vertically it forms a win. The middle symbol of the combination then transforms into a Wild symbol. The other symbols next to it are then removed, and the symbols above drop down to fill the empty spaces and potentially form more combinations. With each symbol drop, the win multiplier increases by 1X. To the left of the grid is the drop meter which records each win and just above that is the multiplier amount. The symbol drop process (and increasing multiplier) continues till no more combinations can be formed, at which point the meter resets.
Free Games Bonus
The main bonus feature of Troll Hunters is the Free Games. Triggering this feature is somewhat different from other slots where you need to achieve a certain combination of symbols. In this game, with each round you play in the base game before the symbols drop from above, the word BONUS appears vertically in random positions on the grid area. To trigger the bonus feature, you need to get sufficient combinations and symbol drops till no more symbols remain in that specific column to reveal the BONUS letters. You are then awarded an initial 10 free games. When the free games begin, the scene changes and the elusive Troll appears and stands menacingly next to the grid. During the free games, you need to get 5 or matching symbols anywhere on the grid for a win. If 5 of more troll symbols appear it awards you additional free games up to a maximum of 20.
Troll Hunters Slot 200 Spins Experience
Our 200 spins test started out somewhat slow, with only a few small winnings combinations here and there. Even on a few occasions where we had some symbol drops in a row, it still didn’t produce much and the medium variance of this slot became very evident. Finally, after a fair number of rounds, we got multiple wins in a row which pushed the multiplier up to 5X and cleared a full column to reveal the BONUS letters and triggered the bonus game. The grid then filled with ice-covered symbols and wherever there were 5 matching symbols anywhere the ice would break off and reveal the winning symbols. The free games are a little different from the base game, especially as there is no symbol drop feature. What this means is that after each winning combination, the grid clears entirely and refills. After 10 free games, we finished with a total win of 31.00, which certainly wasn’t much to celebrate.
Review Summary
Troll Hunters is an intriguing slot but by no means is it the best slot game ever. While the theme, concept and features are a little different to the norm, they certainly could have thrown in a few more interesting bonus features. In terms of gameplay, this slot is well made and the attention to detail in the graphics is excellent. There really isn’t much of a learning curve and within a few “spins” even a new slot player will grasp the concepts.
