Rubies of Egypt Review

This game doesn’t feature the most elaborate ancient Egypt theme, and we’ve seen a lot over the years. Rubies of Egypt comes across as rather generic from a visual standpoint, but it does contain a few features that help lift the experience a tad above average. The top-tier Pharaoh symbol pays both ways.

The Ruby Wild Respin feature is appreciated. The triggering wild (or wilds) become sticky for the respin, and you can get up to 9 extra wilds. The feature triggers on a regular basis, and the bonus round is all about collecting wilds and pharaoh symbols. This is how you add multipliers to the wilds, and eliminate lower value symbols, and it can come to a head with payouts up to 5,000x your stake.

The premium symbols pay between 5 and 10 x your stake for 5 of a kind wins, and the top-tier Pharaoh symbol also pays both ways. The red ruby Wild symbol steps in for pay symbols to help complete and/or improve line wins, and it can land on the 3 middle reels only. The wild does not come with any value of its own in this game.

The Ruby Respin triggers at random times when the ruby Wild is present, but it cannot trigger if you also trigger the bonus round. All present wild symbols become sticky if this feature triggers, and you also get between 2 and 9 extra wilds added for the respin that follows. All non-wild positions respin, which can lead to solid base game payouts.

You need 3, 4, or 5 free spins symbols anywhere in view to trigger the Bonus Round, and this gives you 8, 12, or 16 free spins, respectively. The top-tier Pharaoh symbol, as well as wilds, are collected in the bonus round. You need 10 collected pharaoh and ruby wild symbols to trigger the Pharaoh Power extra and the Ruby Upgrade, respectively. These work as follows:

Pharaoh Power - upgrades the lowest symbol to the next tier, and you also get + 1 extra spins per upgrade. Pharaohs are not collected when all symbols have been upgraded to the top-tier pharaoh symbol. Ruby Upgrade - increases the wild multiplier by +1 per upgrade, and it can go as high as x5 at best. When x5 has been achieved, no more wilds are collected.

Review Summary

Visually, Rubies of Egypt comes across as a somewhat generic slot where the fruit has been replaced by typical Egyptian symbols. The Ruby Respins feature breaks up the base game grind around every 60 spins on average, and it can lead to solid payouts depending on how many extra wilds you get.

Things are taken up several notches when the bonus round hits, of course, and the 2 collect systems can lead to a climactic finish. The best case scenario is that nothing but the top-tier Pharaoh and x5 Multiplier Wild symbols appear towards the end, which will most likely close you in on the 5,000x potential. Many times you will not get very far with the collection systems, however, and Rubies of Egypt is overall a decent enough release that may appeal to a certain crowd.
