You can immediately sense that you’re in for a special treat as soon as the splash screen appears, and Ronin’s Honour is an unusually solid game from a developer that delivers high quality by default. Play’n Go has clearly seen this release as a pet project, and the colorful 5x3 grid is contrasted against a grayish battlefield backdrop. The female Ronin stands ready to draw her sword at all times, and she’ll split symbols and wilds for you all the way.

A Ronin is a samurai with no master, as Japanophile players probably already know, and this highly capable warrior lady is looking for revenge against the evil Hannya. She has ninjas on her side, and these become split full-reel wilds. Defeat 3 of them to win the Battle Bonus Round, and this allows you to take out Hannya herself, and possibly win up to 30,000x your stake. Ronin’s Honour is a must try for samurai and ninja fans, and anyone into ancient Japanese warrior culture.

Ronin’s Honour Slot Features

The premium weapon symbols pay between 3 and 10 x your stake for 5 of a kind wins, and both Wild symbols that appear in this game substitute for pay symbols to help complete and/or improve wins. These are the Hannya Wild and the Ninja Wilds, and we’ll take a closer look at how they are introduced below.

You can land Mystery Mask symbols in all stages of the game, and they can appear on all 5 reels. The Mystery Masks reveal either a pay symbol or a Ninja Wild, and the ninja wild symbol grows to fill the entire reel if revealed. Mystery Masks will all reveal a matching pay symbol, and pay symbols can be split to count as 2 or 3 ways. Ninja Wilds can also be split, and count as between 3 and 9 ways.

You need 3, 4, or 5 scatter symbols in view to trigger the Battle Spins Bonus Round, and this gives you an upfront scatter win of 1x, 4x, or 8x your stake, respectively. The female Ronin seen on the left-hand side now gets 3 lives, and her enemy, Hannya, also gets 3 lives on the right-hand side. If Ninja Wilds block Ronin’s attempt at splitting them with her sword, Ronin loses a life. If she succeeds in her attack, Hannya loses a life.

You get a special Hannya final free spin if Hannya loses all 3 lives, and you will then see a full-reel Hannya Wild appear on reels 3, 4, or 5. She unleashes full reel mystery demon symbols in front of her for protection, and they reveal 3 matching symbols per reel when defeated and split by the Ronin.

The revealed symbols can then be split up to 3 ways per symbol, and the Hannya Wild will be split 3 to 9 ways when defeated. The feature lasts until Ronin runs out of lives, or until you defeat Hannya. You have maximum 50 free spins to defeat Hannya though, or the feature ends with no winner.

Ronin’s Honour is such a game, and the visuals are so good that you almost wish this was a full blown video game or animated film, as you just want to stay in and explore more of this world. The aura of authenticity is only accentuated by the Japanese action commentary, and don’t worry, as you get subtitles that translate the remarks for you.

The female Ronin is an original touch as well, and she stands brave and on the ready by your side at all times. She knows how to swing her Katana blade, no doubt, and it’s a cool way to get the symbol splitting going. The Battle Bonus Round is the big highlight, of course, and it’s always fun to see who comes out on top. The final Hannya Spin can end the feature on a high note if Ronin wins, and we have no complaints about the 30,000x potential either.
