Rising Samurai: Hold and Win Review
This game continues the production of Hold & Win style slots. Rising Samurai: Hold and Win stands out a bit due to the unusual reel setup, and the samurai peeking over the architecture grid.
When he appears in front of the grid good things are bound to come your way, and this may land you a ticket into either of the bonus features. At worst, you’re getting a win from this random Katana Modifier, and both bonus features come with 2 special Samurai Booster Coins that can help you close in on the solid 16,215x potential.
Rising Samurai: Hold and Win Slot Features
The 4 warrior premium symbols pay 4 to 12.5 x your stake for 5 of a kind wins, and you also have a ninja star Wild symbol that substitute for all pay symbols to help complete winning combinations. The ninja star wild does not hold any value of its own however, and it can appear on the 3 middle reels only.
The Rising Samurai can appear over the middle reels at random times, and this triggers the Katana Modifier. This modifier basically awards either a guaranteed win, the hold and win respins bonus or the free spins bonus round.
The Hold & Win Respins (hit rate of 1 in 246 spins) feature can also trigger organically, and more specifically when you land 5+ coin symbols in view. The triggering coins lock in place on an otherwise cleared grid, and you start with 3 respins. The coins come with values of 1x to 10x, and you can also land Mini, Major, Maxi or Grand jackpot coins that pay 25x, 50x, 100x or 250x your stake, respectively. The above coins become sticky, and resets the respins tally to 3 each time they appear.
You can also land Samurai Booster Coins, and these are modifier coins that do not become sticky. The Arrow Booster Coin adds an extra row to the 3 middle reels, and the X Booster Coin increases the win multiplier by +1. The accumulated multiplier applies to the total win that’s summed up when the feature ends. You can only get 3 of each booster coin per session.
The Bonus Round (hit rate of 1 in 347 spins) triggers organically when you land 3, 4 or 5 scatters anywhere in view, and this gives you 10, 12 or 15 free spins, respectively. You can land the Samurai Booster Coins in this feature as well, so the 3 middle reels can thus grow by 3 positions. You can also get up to an x4 win multiplier, but there is no way to retrigger the bonus round or win extra spins.
The 200 Spins Rising Samurai: Hold and Win Slot Experience
We had a decent time testing Rising Samurai: Hold & Win, and we enjoyed the samurai theme and architecture in the background. We’ve whipped together a brief and edited highlights video for you as usual, and you can check it all out for yourself by hitting the play button below.
Review Summary
We’re not sure if the samurai standing in a threatening kind of way behind the reels, staring at you over the top of the grid, is the best design choice. It creates a strange kind of optical illusion, making the samurai look like a giant. Anyway, the theme as such is decently done, making Rising Samurai stand out a bit from other installments in the range.
The random Katana Modifier feature adds a wild card to the mix, so to speak, occasionally giving you either of the bonus rounds. The Booster Coins make the Hold & Win feature stand out a bit from the crowd, but the jackpots are not very impressive. Larger wins are more likely to come from the free spins feature, with up to 3,087 win ways and an x4 multiplier being possible, and we have no complaints about the overall 16,215x potential.
