We’re always happy to try new concepts, and this game has come up with a clever one in Rise of the Genie. It’s not really the genie who’s rising however, as you go bust whenever he appears. What’s rising is your prizes, as each slot win moves you up the 3 different prize ladders you see on the left-hand side. Getting to the top is a priority, since you will then harvest instant prizes per new win.

You can cash out your total cash pot at any time to avoid the evil Genie ruining it for you, and the instant prizes you harvest are always collected immediately. The tension is always there as you try to outsmart the genie, and both the RTP, hit rate, max win and volatility is affected by your cash out strategy. Never collecting is actually the optimal long term strategy, at least if you want the highest RTP and potential.

You win by landing 2 or 3 matching symbols on one of the 5 paylines, but a win is not immediately paid. Instead, each win climbs 1 of 3 prize ladders, and the table below the prize ladders tells you how many steps any given win awards up the respective ladders. The 3 symbols, consisting of a lamp, a book and a gemstone star, come in green, blue and red colors.

Star wins takes you up the lowest value 8-step prize ladder, which comes with prizes up to 8x your stake. Book wins takes you up the 8-step medium-value prize ladder, and it comes with a top prize of 20x your stake. Winning with the lamp climbs the 12-step top-tier prize ladder, where the prizes range from 2x to 50x your stake.

Landing a 3 symbol win with any red symbol takes you 4 steps up the relevant prize ladder, while a 2-symbol win with green symbols takes you 1 step up the relevant prize ladder. These are the extremities, and you can get 2 or 3 steps from different wins as well. A wild symbol can land on reel 2 to help complete winning combos.

The Genie can appear at any time however, and he will reset your progress on all 3 prize ladders at random times. The total win from all 3 prize ladders are displayed in the Cash Pot, and you can collect the cash pot at any time. This also resets all progress on the prize ladders. Reaching the top position on any prize ladder awards repetitive Instant Pay prizes as follows:

• You win 2.5x your stake per win on the lowest-value prize ladder, up to 50x at best.
• You win 6x your stake per win on the medium-value prize ladder, up to 120x at best.
• You win 25x your stake per win on the highest-value prize ladder, up to 500x at best.

Not collecting your total cash pot (which includes collecting any instant prize), while staying on top of any prize ladder, means you’ll collect the relevant instant prize for each new win on that ladder. Instant prizes must always be collected before you can spin again.

Review Summary

This game has come up with a pretty entertaining and innovative concept in Rise of the Genie. The concept is somewhat similar, but this game strikes a better balance in our opinion. It’s not as nerve-racking, although the tension is always there because of the genie, and you can harvest instant prizes when reaching the top of the prize ladders.

In fact, the best long term strategy is to never collect the cash pot at all, and simply just keep harvesting instant prizes until the genie appears. This gives you a 96.46 % RTP, as opposed to a 95.08 % RTP if you always collect the cash pot. Never collecting also gives you the top-tier 500x potential, and it’s more fun to not collect anyway. Of course, you can always collect if you’re in a hurry or have to go somewhere, and it can be tempting after a while of harvesting.
