The Irish Luck theme is very popular, but the fierce competition in this genre makes it very easy to fall into what might be called the cliché trap. It’s hard to come up with something that emanates originality and authenticity each time, and Rainbow Gold is unfortunately a good example of that. Rainbow Gold might come with a cliched Irish Luck Leprechaun theme, but there is little here experienced punters haven't seen before, and the prizes from the top tracker are usually not significant enough to keep your bankroll from sinking ever-deeper into the base game quicksand. You also need the ante bet switched on to land them on a semi-regular basis.
There is just not enough excitement and charm contained in this game to escape being a generic shelf-filler release, and we almost feel sorry for the smiling Leprechaun trying his best to lift your spirits. A game like this probably goes down well with a few stouts, but the quadruple reel set bonus round comes with an annoyingly “slow-mo” tempo (not least if you’re used to turbo spins from the base game), and overall Rainbow Gold just fails to engage.
