Pirate’s Pearl Megaways Review
This reviewer hasn't explored too many slots from this developer before, but we were quite impressed by the pirate adventure they created with Pirate’s Pearl Megaways. They certainly know a thing or two about graphical design. The soundtrack is also fitting, and you get some unusual and innovative features to boot.
The main game is fairly standard, with the regular dynamic grid and cascading wins. However, mystery symbols are collected in 3 different meters seen above the grid, and this is how you trigger 2 different modifiers, as well as the top-tier Ocean Battle feature. The latter is a must see canon battle that can land you up to 10,000x your stake, and you can win up to 80,000x your stake in the progressive win multiplier bonus round.
Pirate’s Pearl Megaways Slot Features
The mid pay symbols award between 1 and 1.5 x your stake for 6 of a kind wins, while the 2 high pay character symbols award either 10x or 20x your stake for the same. You can also land the Pirate Captain Wild on reels 2 to 6 only, and it substitutes for any pay symbols to help complete and/or improve winning combinations. The Wild holds no value of its own, however, and winning symbols are removed and replaced via the Cascading mechanic for as long as your winning streak lasts.
You can also land the Black Pearl Ship Mystery Symbol on reels 2 to 6, and all instances of this symbol turns into a randomly chosen matching symbol (including wilds, but not scatters). Mystery symbols are also collected to trigger 3 different features, and you can follow the progress in the 3 dedicated ship trail meters above the grid.
You need to collect 16 mystery symbols in the leftmost meter to trigger the Sea Storm feature, and this removes all low value symbols from the grid. Only mid or high value symbols will cascade down to fill the gaps, and this may lead to a larger payout. When either of the 3 features trigger, the corresponding number of mystery symbols is reset to zero.
The Yo-Ho-Ho! Megaways Respins feature triggers when you have collected 45 mystery symbols in the middle meter, and this gives you 3 respins. The number of win ways increases per respin, and the final spin can max out the grid with 117,649 ways to win.
You need to collect 100 mystery symbols in the rightmost meter to trigger the Ocean Battle feature, and you will then engage in a full-blown sea battle between “your” pirate ship and the enemy vessel. Both you and the enemy get to fire 6 shots with the cannons, and the aim is to sink the enemy ship. You win between x2 and x1,000 per successful hit, and all winnings are summed up in the end.
If your ship is hit 4 times, it sinks, and this ends the feature with your total win being summed up and paid. If you hit the enemy ship 4 or 5 times, your winnings are boosted by x2. If you manage to hit the enemy ship on all 6 attempts, you win a sunk ship jackpot prize of 10,000x your stake.
You trigger the Free Spins Bonus Round when 5+ scatters appear in the same cascading sequence, and this gives you up to 22 free spins and up to an x10 starting win multiplier. The win multiplier increases by +1 per cascading win, and it comes with no upper limit. The multiplier also never resets for as long as the bonus round lasts.
Before the bonus round starts, however, you can gamble for up to 37 free spins in total, and up to an x50 starting win multiplier. The gamble plays out on 2 dedicated wheels of fortune, and landing in the red zone means that you lose the whole feature.
Finally, non-UK players, and anyone eligible, may take advantage of the Bonus Buy Menu. You can purchase the Ocean Battle feature for 30x your stake, if eligible, and the bonus round with an x5, x6, or x7 starting multiplier for 90x, 190x, or 385x your stake, respectively.
Review Summary
We have to say that they have delivered a pretty solid and swashbuckling pirate release with Pirate’s Pearl Megaways. The soundtrack adds to the epic vibe, and they have paid great attention to detail when it comes to the visual presentation. We also like that they have done something new and unique with this release, instead of just churning out another run of the mill Megaways engine installment like so many developers do.
The mystery symbols collection system is a stroke of genius in our view, as it triggers decent modifiers on a regular basis, and eventually the climactic Ocean Battle feature. It’s a great motivator to keep you going, and we also like that you can get a high starting multiplier in the bonus round. The gamble feature is always risky, but it can be worthwhile once in a while. Not least since more spins and a higher starting multiplier increases your chances at cracking the unusually solid 80,000x potential.
