Orb of Osiris Review
The Layers mechanic seems obvious in action, but it's a unique approach. It's called "Layers" in-game.
You win by landing 3 to 5 matching symbols vertically or horizontally on the 5x5 grid. Winning symbols are removed so the layer underneath can emerge. This mimics the Avalanche mechanic, but it’s still different. The third layer is packed with scatters, and the bonus round has infinite layers.
Orb of Osiris Features
The Layer system has 3 layers of symbols, and the first 2 layers come with wilds. You'll find more wilds in the second layer, and they step in for all regular pay symbols. The wild is also the top paying symbol, landing you 25x for 5 of a kind.
There is an Orb modifier that sometimes comes into play. A red laser beam will remove lines of symbols from the current layer, either horizontally, vertically or both. This reveals new symbols and can trigger the free spins feature.
The third layer consists of scatter symbols, and these trigger the bonus round. You need to reveal at least 4 scatters from the third layer to trigger the free spins, and you start with 10 spins. Each extra scatter gives you 1 extra free spin.
The bonus round has “infinite layers”, but the top 3 layers are the same as in the base game. Dig down to the third scatters-only layer, and each scatter awards 1 to 3 extra spins. A new layer of regular symbols and wilds will be revealed below the third layer.
You'll also benefit from a progressive win multiplier during the free spins, starting at 1x. The multiplier will increase with +1 for each win, with no upper limit. The Orb modifier can become active in the free spins round too, and the max win is capped.
The Experience
During a test run, 6 scatter symbols emerged from the deepest layer, awarding 12 free spins. The bonus round took a while.
Review Summary
This game features a neat innovation with its Layers. It works similar to Cascading/Avalanche, but adds a new “layer” of excitement.
The pace of the game is slow. Revealing the layers is a meticulous affair, but you get to savor the moments when you win. The bonus round can take a while, but all is forgiven if you win close to the potential. Overall, this is a strong game, and it's hoped to see more of the Layers mechanic in the future.
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Innovative 3 symbol layers mechanic | Pace is a bit too slow, which can be annoying |
| Bonus round with “infinite layers” and unlimited win multiplier | RTP is below the industry average |
| Win up to a specified amount from a single spin sequence |
