Megaways Review
Megaways is essentially 2 different games rolled into one. Not only are the features somewhat different per game mode, you also get a very different math model. The default 1ForAll Mode plays out on a single grid setup, with an RTP of 95.53 %. The hit rate is 27.3 %, the bonus round hit rate is 1 in 366 spins, and the max win is 33,980x your stake. The biggest benefit of this mode is 2 extra random modifiers, and the significantly higher potential.
The All4One Mode comes with a quadruple reel set, and the RTP is 95.99 %. The hit rate increases to 35 %, and the bonus round hit rate increases to 1 in 166 spins. You get a max win of 19,507x your stake, as well as an extra bonus round modifier that’s not available in the 1ForAll Mode. You can change between modes at any time in the base game, and both modes allow for bet sizes below £/€1 per spin.
Megaways Features
The non-character premium symbols pay between 2 and 10 x your stake for 6 of a kind wins, while the top-tier character symbol pays 50x your stake for the same. This character is Richelieu by default, but he’s replaced by a unique character for each reel set if you change to All4One Mode. The characters are D'Artagnan (who becomes a musketeer later in the story), as well as the 3 original musketeers; Porthos, Athos and Aramis. The Wild symbol can land on reels 2-5, stepping in for pay symbols to help complete wins.
All winning symbols are removed via the Cascading Wins mechanic, making room for new and/or existing symbols to drop down to fill the gaps. This allows for indefinite extra wins per spin, as the process repeats as long as you keep winning. The Windmill Mystery symbols turn into the same randomly chosen matching symbol whenever they appear.
The default 1ForAll Game Mode offers a few random features you don’t get in the quadruple grid All4One Mode. The Lose to Win modifier guarantees a feature or at least a win, and the Max Megaways modifier maxes out the grid with 7 rows per reel and 117,649 win ways.
The Bonus Round is somewhat different between the 2 game modes as well, but landing 4 bonus scatters anywhere awards 5 free spins in both modes. On top of that, you get +1 extra spin up to 7 for each extra triggering scatter. You get the quadruple grid in the 1ForAll bonus round, and each grid comes with an individual progressive and unlimited win multiplier that starts at x1 and increases by +1 per cascade.
The ‘quad grid’ All4One Game Mode does not come with the extra modifiers you get in 1ForAll Mode, but you still need 4+ bonus scatters on the same grid to trigger the Bonus Round with up to 7 free spins at the most. It plays out the same as above, but a special All4One symbol may land. If it appears on all 4 grids at the same time, all multipliers are upgraded to the highest current multiplier value.
Both bonus rounds come with what’s called a Bonus Guarantee, and this guarantee kicks in if you win less than 10x your stake in total from the feature. This awards +3 extra free spins, but the guarantee can only be triggered one time.

Review Summary
Having never really watched the movie(s) or read the classic book, we came to Megaways as someone who’s merely heard about the infamous ‘3 musketeers’. Fans of the pre French revolution tale might enjoy this even more than we did, but you don’t really need a lot of context to appreciate the features on offer here. Sufficient to say, Richelieu is the bad guy, and the 4 other characters are the good guys, in case you are as clueless as we were.
Which game mode to go with will mostly depend on your personal preference, as both come with advantages and drawbacks. The All4One mode seems like a good option though, at least if you want far more frequent bonus round triggers and the best possible RTP. The quadruple grid compensates for the lack of 2 modifiers, and the 19,507x potential is more than high enough anyway. Megaways is another solid dynamic reels installment.
