In our review of Sisters of the Sun, we envisioned that the 3 fierce sisters would eat the Sailor Moon cuties for lunch if they ever met. In an unexpected twist however, the anime-inspired Princesses seem to have come out on top. They’ve basically taken over the Sisters of the Sun template for a Holidays season special. Moon Princess Christmas Kingdom is a reskin job in other words, with one small, yet crucial, difference.
The 5x5 semi-transparent grid is set in a snow-filled landscape with a castle in the distance, and the reels are filled with Xmas decoration symbols and the sweet princesses you know from the original Moon Princess. You get plenty of base game action, with wild generating cascades, 3 random Girl Power modifiers and clearing the grid in the Trinity Feature is your only way into the bonus round. Overall, this is a highly enjoyable release, and it wraps up the trilogy like a neatly done Xmas present.
Moon Princess Christmas Kingdom Features
Landing 5 matching princess symbols in a row (vertically or horizontally) awards 10x your stake, while a mix of any of them pays 5x your stake for the same. The Cascading Wins feature removes all winning symbols, and new and/or existing symbols then drop down to fill the gaps.
This goes on as long as you keep winning, and wilds are generated in the middle positions between 3 removed symbols. Wilds remain in play for the duration of the cascading sequence, and they substitute for regular pay symbols like wilds usually do.
You will notice that 5 random positions are highlighted by a mistletoe frame per spin, and any win that happens in a framed position increases the win multiplier by +1. The multiplier resets between base game spins though, but this is not the case in the bonus round.
A princess is always by your side, and she may trigger her unique ‘Girl Power’ feature at random times. Here is an overview of what you can expect from each of the 3 princesses:
- Love - transform one symbol type into another.
- Star - adds 1 or 2 wild symbols to the grid.
- Storm - removes 2 symbol types from the grid.
The Trinity Feature triggers when you land a single fox scatter anywhere in view. This can happen organically as in the original game, or via the added and randomly triggered ‘What, The Fox’ feature. Either way, it gives you a free spin where the 3 princesses take turns playing out their respective girl powers on non-winning cascades. The aim is to clear the grid completely, as this awards the bonus round.
The Bonus Round can only trigger from clearing the grid in the Trinity Feature, and you get to choose between the 3 princesses before the feature starts:
- Love - awards 4 free spins with +4 extra spins per fox scatter that lands in the bonus round.
- Star - awards 5 free spins with +3 extra spins per fox scatter that lands in the bonus round.
- Storm - awards 8 free spins with +2 extra spins per fox scatter that lands in the bonus round.
The number of mistletoe frames increases from 5 to 10 during the bonus round, and the Girl Power from your selected Princess helps you out on every non-winning spin. The win multiplier is carried over from the base game, and it does not reset between spins. You cannot get more than 150 free spins in total during the feature.

Review Summary
While Sisters of the Sun was a more fierce version of classic, Moon Princess, it kind of makes sense to complete the circle by allowing the cutesy anime princesses to express their girlie powers in that format for an Xmas release. The only difference is that triggering the bonus round is slightly more likely in this version, since the ‘What, the Fox’ feature can trigger at any time. It will not make a huge difference though, and the math model is identical to Sisters of the Sun.
So are the other features, for that matter, and there is plenty going on most of the time. You have wilds being generated from cascading wins, as well as the 3 random Girl Powers that keep you going when you least expect it. The Trinity Feature can award decent payouts even if you don’t take it all the way to the bonus round, and the 15,000x potential is still 3 times higher than what’s on offer in the original Moon Princess (albeit with a 1 in 1 billion probability).
