What are the bonus features?

The Re-spin feature is the defining bonus in the game, appearing frequently. An extra horizontal reel (more of a display) is located below reels 1 and 2, displaying either blanks ("- - - -") or the word "Re-spin".

Landing the word "Re-spin" alongside a winning combination on the regular reels triggers the Re-spin feature. The winning symbols then become sticky, granting additional re-spins as long as the winning combo continues to grow.

Above each reel is a multiplier value, starting at 2x for the first reel and ending at 7x for the sixth. The multiplier can be activated during Re-spins by filling a reel completely with the triggering matching symbol. However, this must be done in sequential order to take effect.

For example, filling reels up to reel 6 won't help if reel 1 isn't filled. But if the next respin fills reel 1, you'll benefit from the 7x multiplier from reel 6. The entire reel setup inverts, becoming 4-4-3-3-2-2. The horizontal Re-spin display will now always show "re-spin," meaning that any winning combination during the bonus round automatically triggers the Re-spins feature.

The progressive multiplier rules are slightly more lenient in the free spins feature. You no longer have to fill up reels in sequential order to benefit from a multiplier. Filling up reel 4, for instance, triggers the 2x multiplier above the first reel. Multipliers are therefore easier to utilize than during the base game Re-spins feature.

Retriggering the bonus round is possible by landing at least 3 diamond scatters on a free spin, granting 4 new spins, and 2 extra spins for each scatter beyond 3. The progressive multiplier scale also increases by one increment per retrigger, e.g., 3x to 8x after one retrigger, with no upper limit.

Innovation is always exciting, and we knew this was no ordinary fruit slot. We were eager to get started with our 200 spins test run, and we loaded in the game with great anticipation. We set the bet level to £1 per spin, turned on the fast play option and loaded up the autoplay with 250 spins.

On the “oddly satisfying” gameplay scale, we would say Mega Flip is a good medium to high (with quick spin turned on, that is), as the game flows smoothly with a nice pace to it. The Re-spins feature is triggered quite often, as we expected, but many times it does not really amount to much in terms of winnings.

Our first 100 spins was rather uneventful at first, but towards the end interesting things started to happen. Suddenly the Re-spins feature triggered, and we watched the screen fill up more and more with the medium level bell symbol. We now had only 1 reel position left to fill on the entire screen, and unfortunately this had to be on reel 1.

Low and behold, the final respin did not land a bell symbol. Therefore we won only around 21x, when we could have landed a massive 7 x 43.2 = 302.4x win via the 7x multiplier that we barely missed. That’s the kind of disappointment this game can dish out, but the opposite is also true, of course.

After this, we had a few semi-similar situations involving a 4x and 5x multiplier, but we ended up winning between 16x and 26x each time. We broke even more or less to the desimal after 100 spins, and nothing much happened for 50 spins, or so, after that. Then we finally managed to trigger the bonus round with 3 scatters, and this gave us 8 free spins.

The reel setup flipped, which was kind of neat, and after a few warm up spins things started to really heat up. We had 2 mega wins of around 50x each, almost filling the screen each time and benefitting from medium sized multipliers. In the end we got away with a 108.65x total win, which was enough to once again break us even. Mega Flip is a game that it’s very easy to relax with, and the gameplay and visuals are pleasing to the eye. The high volatility does not seem all that brutal (at least not to us), but you do need the respin feature multiplier to have a realistic chance at bigger wins here. Of course, the bonus round drastically increases your odds for just that, and the flipping of the reel setup is quite an original and cool feature that adds to the edgy vibe of this game. Will it be the slot of the year? Probably not, but it’s still a solid and somewhat innovative game that fans of similar slots will probably enjoy.
