The original was a decent African safari release, and now they’ve decided to pimp it up to a Gold installment. Majestic Gold Megaways comes with a somewhat improved visual presentation, but the top-tier Lion symbol is worth 10 times less in this version. What you get instead is a pre bonus round gamble feature, as well as a more than doubled 50,000x potential.

You also get a Lion collect feature during the bonus round, and it transforms the lowest value animal premiums into the Lion progressively. Both are highly volatile installments, and they come with cascading wins and mystery symbols. A maxed out megaways spin can trigger at random times, and you’ll see some animated birds in the sunset backdrop. Turning on the Gold Bet makes it easier to trigger the bonus round, and this is overall a better version of a mediocre original.

Majestic Gold Megaways Features

The premium animal symbols pay between 2 and 5 x your stake for 6-oak wins in this version, and you also have a wild symbol that steps in for all regular pay symbols to help complete winning combinations. The wild does not hold any value of its own, and it will only slide in on the horizontal top reel.

All winning symbols are removed from the grid via the Cascading Wins mechanic, and the gaps are then filled by new and/or existing symbols that drop down from above. This can lead to indefinite extra wins per round, as the feature goes on as long as you keep landing new winning combinations.

You can land a random number of mystery symbols on any given spin, and they will all turn into a random matching pay symbol. The mystery symbols cannot turn into wilds or scatters, but they can help generate decent base game wins.

The same can be said about the Max Megaways feature that can also trigger at any given time. This awards a guaranteed maxed out 117,649 win ways spin, which means that all 6 reels contain the maximum number of symbols.

You can activate the Gold Bet feature if you wish, but it will cost you 50 % more per spin. You will then only need 3 bonus scatters to trigger the bonus round, while 4 is the minimum without it. Before the feature starts however, you get a chance to gamble for more spins and a higher starting win multiplier.

You’ll see 2 wheels divided into red and green segments, and you need to land on green to get +1 extra spin or +1 added to the starting multiplier. This can lead to up to 20 free spins at the most, and the starting multiplier can go as high as x10. Keep in mind however, that landing on the red segment on either wheel means that you lose the whole bonus round. The win multiplier increases by +1 per cascading win in the bonus round.

All top-tier Lion symbols are collected during the feature, and you need 20 collected lions to convert the least valuable premium symbol into the Lion symbol. Each time you collect 20 Lion symbols you also win +3 extra spins, and this goes on until all premium symbols are converted into the Lion. This is called the Golden Lion feature.

The Majestic Bet feature is available in some jurisdictions, but not in the UK for sure. This allows you to purchase the bonus round for 75x your stake, and this increases the RTP to 96.85 %.

Review Summary

Adding the possibility of gambling for extra spins and a higher starting multiplier is an okay upgrade, but it’s still somewhat of a risk to take. You grind along in a largely uneventful base game, with a mystery symbol win and maxed out megaways payout here and there, and then you finally trigger the bonus round. Do you take your chances or not is the big question, and it seems gambling for a higher starting multiplier is your safest option.

Another thing that’s been bolted on in this Gold version is the symbol transformation Golden Lion feature. The problem is that 20 Lions are hard to collect, and getting even a single symbol transformed is thus far from easy. The potential has been increased from 20K to 50,000x your stake, which is solid, and overall you’re dealing with a better version here. Still, it’s not anything too special, and we’re unsure if the added features are enough to revive a somewhat mediocre African safari title.
