The background varies with the bonus round cycles, and you start in a pastoral countryside scene, while later getting into the heart of Rome itself at its peak.

The somewhat unusual Shield Collection System enhances the reels as you play, and optimal strategy would be to complete each cycle to the bonus round, otherwise your theoretical returns will suffer below the stated 96.37 %. Don’t worry though, as low volatility and 1 in 100 spins bonus round frequency ensures plenty of bang for your bucks. Overall, a decent enough debut game that at least tries to do things a bit differently.

The legionnaire wild can land on the 3 middle reels only, and it steps in for all regular pay symbols. Bonus shields will also land on the 3 middle reels only, and these will benefit you in different ways. This is called the Bonus Shield Collection feature, and the benefits come in a specific order per reel as follows:

• Bronze - the first shield opens up an extra bottom position on the reel.
• Silver - the second shield opens up an extra top position on the reel.
• Gold - the third shield adds a x2 multiplier overlay to both the top and bottom position.

As is the nature of many a debut, Legion Hot 1 comes across as a bit awkward and clumsy. The Shield Collect Enhancement cycle starts you off with an unspecified, but “significantly lower”, RTP than 96.37 %. You reach that number only by reaching the bonus round. This gives you a very strong incentive to simply buy the bonus round instead, if that is indeed possible in your jurisdiction.

Looking past the math model “blunder”, if we can call it that, this is a decent debut slot, and at least the developer has the guts to try something different. Fans of the dynamic reel concept might wanna give this one a spin or two, as the 2,525x potential is decent for a low variance title. Not much here for high rollers perhaps, but we had plenty of bonus buys that turned a decent profit. In fact, it seemed hard to win less than 50x, but you could perhaps chalk that up as beginner’s luck.
