Legion Gold and the Sphinx of Dead Review
The sun is high, the sands are gold, and the pyramids rise in the mist! We are in Egypt once again to review one of the latest slot games - Legion Gold and the Sphinx of Dead. A marvelous adventure is ahead, where once Roman sandals marched for the glory of the great Caesar.
Many games have been inspired by Egypt and its mysteries. When I first launched this brand-new game, I thought it was a mix between two titles - Legion Gold and Legacy of Dead. The Roman infantry, some of the sound effects, and all animal characters are reminiscent of the first one.
Actually, earlier in 2024, a Legin Gold sequel was released, with improved visuals and max prize. The Legion Gold and the Sphinx of Dead slot is actually an extension of that variant, as it comes with similar numbers and volatility (medium).
On the flip side, the similarities with Legacy of Dead are the Tomb symbol, which is once again a scatter. Also, the low-valued symbols come with designs closer to the Egyptian adventure. Last but not least, we are in the land of Pharaohs and ancient animal deities, after all!
Sadly, that is pretty much all in common between Legion Gold and the Sphinx of Dead and the popular slots with expanding symbols. The new title is almost identical reskin of the Legion Gold Unleashed in terms of technical characteristics, bonus features, and symbol payouts.
But make no mistake, it still has plenty to offer, like a Cash Collect base game feature or Mega symbols during the bonus round! Now, let's begin with the game and its interface, which shows a large grid with 5 reels and 3 rows. A Roman helmet and sword lie on its left side, while a temple rises on the right.
The payout mechanics generate 25 fixed paylines on every spin, and they are oriented from the leftmost reel to the right. Visually, the slot is striking, with crystal-clear graphics and amazing artwork in symbol design and animations. Sounds are epic and ideally match this mixed theme.
Roman soldiers are the wild symbols in Legion Gold and the Sphinx of Dead, and they often land in stacks. Wilds substitute for all symbols in view except Coins, Chest, and Tomb scatters. They also pay the most generous cash rewards if lined up - 1x, 2x, and 20x the bet for 3 to 5, just like the Sphinx symbol.
The battle tigers and crocodiles are once again part of the mix and pay up to 16x and 12x the stake, respectively. However, the last high-valued character is Anubis in its jackal form, which brings from 0.40x to 8x the bet. The low-paying symbols are A, K, Q, and J, and each one pays 0.20x, 0.80x, and 2x the wager for 3, 4, or 5 of a kind.
Legion Gold and the Sphinx of Dead provides plenty of stake opportunities, and the total betting range stretches from €0.05 to €100 per spin. The RTP ranges, as usual, and the most generous version has a rate of 96.25%. The Hit Frequency is 1 in 2.67 spins, and the levels of volatility are medium.
I highly recommend avoiding the alternative RTP variants of the game - 94.25%, 91.25%, 87.25%, and 84.25%. They won't bring you anything but a headache, and fortunately, they are not so widespread. The max win here copies the figures from Legion Gold Unleashed - 3,000x the bet or up to €300,000.
Legion Gold and the Sphinx of Dead Features
Legion Gold and the Sphinx of Dead comes with a nice bonus package that includes a base game feature and 2 special minigames. From my experience with the game, each of them triggers quite frequently, but the results are unbalanced. Perhaps with the right betting strategy, the riches of Egypt will become easier to reach!
Gold Coin Chest
Gold Coin Chest is a Cash Collect symbol which is active during both the base game, free spins, and Gold respins. It acts as usual, and each symbol collects individually all Gold Coin prizes in view. Gold Coins can be collected multiple times during the Hold & Win bonus minigame.
Gold Re-Spins Feature
The Gold Re-Spins minigame starts when 6 or more Gold Coins hit the reels during the base game or free spins. They are held in place, and the rest of the grid is transformed into independent reels. Each Gold Coin has a random credit value from 1x to 1,000x the bet.
Players get 3 respins to find more Gold Coins or Chests. In addition to the total win, a Golden Prize of 1,000x the bet can be won if all 15 positions are filled with bonus symbols.
Mega Free Spins Bonus
Three scatters on reels 1, 3, and 5 activate the Free Spins bonus and award 5 initial free rounds. A random Mega symbol of 3x3 will move randomly on the grid on each spin, and it can show any symbol. A Mega Scatter retriggers the bonus adding 5 extra free spins.
A Mega Gold Coin triggers the Gold Re-Spins bonus and breaks into 9 individual Gold Coins with random credit values. Free Spins is capped at 3,000x the bet and will be terminated immediately if the win cap is reached.

Our Verdict
Legion Gold and the Sphinx of Dead is another sequel to the portfolio of Egyptian-themed games. I'm confident that it's created to cater mostly to the fans of the Legion Gold series. The game has its ups and downs if we abstract from the fact that it's just a reskinned copy of another slot.
If so, I would highlight the amazing graphics and artwork, stacked wilds that help for regular winnings, and the Cash Collect feature. The max payout of 3,000x is decent, but the win probability makes it pretty much imaginary - 1 in 53 million. And then, I don't think anyone can argue with the quality of the bonus minigames!
On the flip side, fans of the Ancient Egypt theme can find an array of other slots that perform better. All that is a simple proof of the potential. Legion Gold and the Sphinx of Dead is a reminder that the company works on many fronts and strives to deliver visually appealing and engaging slots to all enthusiasts around the world. So, if you don't feel confident yet, take advantage of the free demo on this page and make a few risk-free spins!
