Larry the Leprechaun Review
Larry the Leprechaun won the Slot Game of the Year Award at Malta Gaming Awards in 2019. It utilizes the Matrix Table system, but there are 3 different symbols to collect and/or fill the Matrix Tables. You got 2 different paid spins sticky wild features, as well as a free spins round.
The team has given this “pet project” special attention, as the audiovisual experience is way above average. This is not least due to the charming, animated Leprechaun. You can plow through tons of spin in no-time with the turbo maxed out, and you also get to choose your own preferred volatility (low, standard or high), as usual.
Larry the Leprechaun™ Slot Features
The Pay Anywhere system awards payouts whenever you land 8 to 16 matching symbols anywhere in view, and a full 4x4 grid of matching symbols pay between 20 and 200 x your stake. In addition, you have the Leprechaun Wild that pays 250x your stake for a full grid, and it also steps in for all regular pay symbols, plus silver and gold coins, to help complete winning combinations and trigger features.
The best set of matching symbols that has the highest chance of creating a win is locked in place automatically per round, but you may lock and unlock any symbols as you see fit. The remaining symbol positions will then spin as you hit the play button, which may, at best, fill the screen with matching symbols.
Gold Coin symbols turn on sticky symbols in a corresponding position in the small Bonus Matrix Table on the right-hand side, and a full table with 16 symbols awards the Leprechaun’s Bonus Spins feature the next time you land 5+ Gold Coins in view (wild symbols count as Gold Coins in this regard, but they do not fill the Matrix Table).
You’re still paying for the spins during the feature, and all wilds that land become sticky on the grid. The feature lasts for 16 spins, as you empty the Matrix Table, but wilds do not pay in combination with regular symbols. The aim is thus to fill the grid to maximize the final wild symbol win, which tops out at 250x your stake.
Silver Coins work in a similar way as Gold Coins, and a full 16-position Silver Coin Matrix Table awards the Free Spins Bonus Round the next time you land 5+ Silver Coins (wilds count as Silver Coins in this regard) on the same spin. You get 16 free spins, and neither Gold, Silver or Sack symbols will land. Also, you cannot lock/unlock reels during the feature, as this happens automatically only.
The Magic Sack symbol draws 2-5 coins away from the Gold and Silver Matrix Table (up to 10 coins can be removed in total), before it’s collected in the left-hand side Magic Sack Bonus Meter. You need 8 Magic Sacks to fill the meter, and the next Magic Sack that lands triggers 8 Magic Sack Bonus Spins.
These are once again paid spins, and you start with 5 random symbols transformed into sticky wilds. In addition, a low-value symbol is chosen up front, and all instances of it turn sticky wild when it lands. Regular wilds that land also become locked in place, and Gold, Silver and Magic Sack symbols do not land. It’s all about maximizing your sticky wild payout, as sticky wilds do not pay in combination with regular symbols.

Review Summary
It was clear that the team has poured some extra time, attention and resources into this production, and the animated Leprechaun is charmingly involved in everything that goes on. This landed them the Slot of the Year MGA Award in 2019, and the only thing holding this release back is the rather low 350x potential. The trend has been increasingly in favor of high risk/reward since then, which may help explain the somewhat limited success of this otherwise solid release.
Casual punters might not care too much about this, but hardcore gamblers will look elsewhere for Irish Luck adventures. The symbol lock system can lead to okay base game payouts, and it’s kind of fun to collect the gold, silver and magic sacks to have the features in escrow. The cheerful soundtrack, and the antics of Larry the Leprechaun, keeps your mood lifted throughout the session, but this is hardly your go-to slot for potentially life-changing payouts.
