At first glance, you might think you’re in for yet another safari-themed cliché, but expect the unexpected. While there is nothing overly innovative on offer in King of Cats Megaways, except perhaps the Playerselect™ feature, this is still a release that towers way above the average formulaic megaways titles.
You basically get 2 high-powered games rolled into one via the 2 modes, and the audiovisual presentation, combined with perfectly tuned pace, gives the gameplay that ‘oddly satisfying’ quality. When you’re tired of the open savannah where the lions roam, you can always switch to the dark jungle of the puma. Beware, however, that each mode comes with very different max win potentials, both in the base game and during the bonus rounds (more about that below).
King of Cats Megaways Features
There are 3 types of wild symbols in this game, and the regular sized, ordinary wild that steps in for all pay symbols in both game modes can land on reels 2 to 6 only. The 2 other wilds are mode specific multiplier wilds, and we’ll take a closer look at them below.
The Playerselect feature allows you to choose between the Lion Mode and the Puma Mode up front, but don’t worry, you can switch between the 2 modes after any given spin. The max win per spin in the Lion Mode base game is 6,060x your stake, but the potential increases to 24,200x per Lion Free Spin.
The Lion Bonus Round is triggered when you land 3, 4, 5 or 6 paw scatters anywhere, and this awards 8, 12, 16 or 20 Lion Free Spins. The 2x2, 3x3 or 4x4 lion mega wilds start out with x4, x10 or x16 multipliers respectively, but the respective multipliers increase by +2, +5 and +8 for each new lion wild you land. You can retrigger the feature the same way it was triggered in the first place.
In the Puma Mode, you can benefit from up to 3 Puma Wilds Reels on any given spin. Each wild reel comes with a randomly assigned multiplier of x2, x3 or x4. The single spin base game max win in Puma Mode is 1,070x your stake, but the potential increases to 56,620x per spin in the Puma Bonus Round.
You win 15, 18, 21 or 24 Puma Free Spins when you land 3, 4, 5 or 6 paw scatters, respectively. It is simple to make such a common run-of-the-mill theme their own, and they do it with grace and nobility. This is basically 2 solid megaways titles rolled into one, and everything from the visuals, to the tribal electronica soundtrack and the perfectly paced gameplay, is oozing with quality. It’s like getting your hands on a perfectly tuned instrument, and you get plenty of feature triggers also in the base games.
The 2 modes create an interesting paradox however, as the Puma Mode comes with twice the bonus round max win, while the Lion Mode comes with a base game max win that’s almost 6x higher than what the Puma base game offers. The RTP and high volatility is more or less the same either way, so perhaps the best strategy is to grind in the Lion Mode, while switching to Puma Mode when you sense that a bonus round is overdue to trigger.
