Jolly Roger Wild Kraken Review
Embark on a thrilling pirate adventure in Jolly Roger Wild Kraken, a game with high production value, immersive sound design, and the potential for big wins. The intro video immediately sets the scene, with the Kraken emerging from a stormy sea as the captain warns his crew of the impending danger. This, combined with the swashbuckling soundtrack, instantly pulls you into the heart of the action.
The game unfolds on a 5x3 grid, right on the deck of the pirate ship, with the bearded captain himself as the highest paying symbol. Land 5 of him on a payline and you'll snag 10x your stake. Other symbols keeping things thematic include cannons, daggers, and a compass, offering payouts of 5x, 6x, and 7.5x for 5-of-a-kind. You'll also find the usual royal symbols (A, K, Q, J, 10) for lower-value wins up to 2.5x for 5-oak. With 20 paylines and bets ranging from €0.20 to €100 per spin, this game caters to both casual players and high rollers.
The Jolly Roger Wild symbol appears in all stages, substituting for any regular symbol to help form winning combinations. Land enough Wilds and you'll also grab a payout, with 5 on a payline awarding 20x your stake. In the base game, keep your eyes peeled for the treasure chest and key symbols. Land both on the same spin, and you'll unlock an instant cash prize worth up to 50x your stake.
The real excitement starts when you trigger the bonus round. This is where the cannonball multiplier scatters come into play. Each cannonball you collect fills a meter and upgrades the Kraken Wild with a multiplier of up to x5. Collect enough cannonballs, and you'll upgrade to the super bonus round, where the multipliers can reach x100. With a decent hit rate of 33.55 % and medium volatility, Jolly Roger Wild Kraken offers a balanced experience with a solid max win of 20,000x your stake.
Jolly Roger Wild Kraken Features
While the base game offers instant treasure prizes, the bonus round is where the action is in Jolly Roger Wild Kraken. Both the regular and super versions are all about firing cannonballs at the roaming Kraken wild, upgrading it with multipliers. Let’s take a closer look!
Instant Treasure
Landing a treasure chest symbol on reel 1 and a key symbol on reel 5 on the same spin triggers the Instant Treasure feature. These symbols appear only in the base game, and the key unlocks the chest to award a cash prize between 5x and 50x your stake.
Jolly Roger Wild Kraken Free Spins
You need 6+ cannonball scatters in view to trigger the Bonus Round, and cannonballs also appear during the feature. Cannonballs land with multipliers of x2, x3, or x5, and you get the same number of free spins as the amount of triggering scatters. As the bonus round starts, the triggering cannonballs are loaded into the collection meter atop the grid.
The Kraken Wild appears fully stacked and moves to different reels per free spin, but it can only roam around on the 3 middle reels. A new cannonball multiplier from the meter is fired at the Kraken Walking Wild per free spin, upgrading the wild with its value if the wild partakes in a win. Each new cannonball scatter that lands is collected in the meter, awarding +1 extra spin with up to 49 free spins being possible in total.
Super Cannon Free Spins
If the Kraken Wild is involved in 6 wins in the regular bonus round, you’re upgraded to the Super Bonus Round. The remaining cannonballs in the meter are carried over in addition to the 4 cannonballs you get for the super free spins. While the carried-over cannonballs retain their multiplier values, the super cannonballs are assigned a random value of x10, x15, x25, x50, or x100. You get the same amount of super free spins as cannonballs in the meter.

Our Verdict
In many ways, Jolly Roger Wild Kraken is a release. The production value is top-notch, with a fantastic intro and the captain's booming voice-over adding to the immersive experience. Honestly, it's hard to find any real faults with this game. The math model is solid too, with a decent RTP (make sure you're playing the top-tier version) and a max win of 20,000x your stake. They've ticked all the right boxes to create a fun pirate adventure.
But (and you probably sensed that "but" coming), there's still a sense that something is missing. It's like the game has a perfect facade, doing everything right on paper, but lacking true depth. Don't get me wrong, it's an overall solid slot game well above the average release, especially if you're a fan of pirates. However, there's this nagging feeling that something intangible is missing, like it’s an empty shell with no soul.
The base game could use a bit more spice, although I will say the treasure chest prizes landed fairly often in my testing. Sadly, they rarely delivered anything substantial. That said, with medium volatility and a decent hit rate, staying afloat between bonus rounds wasn't too difficult. The bonus round itself is good fun, especially when you rack up a good number of cannonballs. However, be warned, the free spins can disappear quickly if the walking wild doesn't play ball.
Upgrading to the super bonus, which you'll most likely need to get anywhere near the 20,000x potential, does not happen all that often. I also wish there was more transparency about the bonus round hit rate, and a bonus buy option would have been a welcome addition too. Overall, Jolly Roger Wild Kraken offers a pretty good time, but it can't escape that "assembly line" feel that I often get from slots. It's a solid game, but not one that's likely to become a personal favorite.
