Jazz of New Orleans Megaways Review
The jazz clubs in Bourbon Street are probably worth a visit if you find yourself in the area, and you get to choose between 5 of them when the bonus round triggers. They all look the same on the inside though, and there is no actual music being played. The soundtrack captures the anticipation before the live band goes on stage, it seems, so players looking to get their hair blown back by massive horns may be a tad disappointed.
This is a pretty solid Megaways installment, and you get cascading wins and a framed symbols wild transformation system. This can lead to decent payouts also in the base game, and you get to pick both clubs and instruments to beef up the bonus round with a starting win multiplier. You can gamble to enhance it further if you wish, and the win cap is set to £250,000 for this game.
Jazz of New Orleans Megaways Slot Features
The symbols pay between 0.5 and 500 x your stake for 6 of a kind wins, and the top-tier female singer symbol also pays 2x for 2 of a kind wins. Winning symbols are removed via the Cascading Wins mechanic, and replaced by new and/or existing symbols dropping down from above. This process repeats for as long as your winning streak lasts. You can land silver or gold framed symbols on the top horizontal reel, and all matching symbols on the reel directly below a silver framed symbol will turn into wild symbols. If a golden framed symbol appears, all matching symbols on reels 2 to 5 will turn wild. In both cases the framed symbol also turns wild, and wilds step in for pay symbols to help complete and/or improve wins.
You need at least 4 crescent moon scatters in view to trigger the Bonus Round, and scatters appear on the vertical reels only. You will then get to pick 1 of 5 different clubs to enter, and this determines your number of free spins randomly. After that, you get to pick your favorite instrument, and this determines the bonus round starting win multiplier. The available outcomes are determined by the number of triggering scatters as follows:
- 4 triggering scatters awards 12 to 20 free spins and a starting win multiplier of x2 to x6.
- 5 triggering scatters awards 14 to 22 free spins and a starting win multiplier of x3 to x7.
- 6 triggering scatters awards 16 to 24 free spins and a starting win multiplier of x4 to x8.
You can choose to gamble for extra free spins up to 24, as well as a starting multiplier up to x10. The gambling takes place on a wheel, and losing does not necessarily mean that the whole feature is lost. You can advance to different levels, but you do risk being worse off than you were to begin with.
Landing bonus scatter symbols in the bonus round awards either extra spins or a multiplier increase. You can see what reward is coming up by keeping an eye on the Bonus Bar on the right-hand side. You get +1 or +2 extra spins, or +2 or +3 added to the win multiplier per reward.
The Super Bet feature is available in some jurisdictions, and this allows you to pay 25 % more per spin to double your bonus round chances. Non-UK players, and anyone eligible, can also take advantage of the Bonus Buy menu. You can pay 100x the stake for at least 4 triggering scatters on the next spin, or 500x your stake to get the maximum of 24 free spins with the highest possible starting win multiplier of x10.
On a final note, there is also a progressive jackpot version of this game, and you win the jackpots by landing 4, 5, or 6 treble clef key symbols in view. Only the highest jackpot is paid, and the Minor, Major, and Grand jackpots are on display on the left-hand side. The 3 progressive jackpots come with the following seed levels:
- The Minor Jackpot resets to £13.
- The Major Jackpot resets to £133.
- The Grand Jackpot resets to £15,000.
The 200 Spins Jazz of New Orleans Megaways Slot Experience
You get a decent taste of the base game, before we purchase and trigger the bonus round at 0:48 into the 5-minute highlights video. We got 14 free spins and an x3 starting win multiplier from the pick games, and we did not take our chances on the gamble wheel. The feature plays out for the remainder of the video, and you can check it all out by hitting the play button below.
Review Summary
There is no doubt that Jazz of New Orleans Megaways is a better game than the original, and it’s not only due to the bigger and bolder format. We did expect to be blown away by some high quality jazzy tunes though, but that’s not really the case. This is a bit strange when you consider the title and the theme of this game, and the soundtrack seems to capture the buzz from the crowd before the jam starts instead of filling your ears with actual music.
The dynamic grid does its usual thing, which is to provide varied gameplay, and the framed wild transformation system is a somewhat original touch. You don’t get the framed symbols all that often though, but especially the golden frame can make a dent when it appears. The pre-bonus pick games are charming enough, but the actual feature does not offer anything new or revolutionary. Still, getting a higher starting multiplier than the usual x1 is never wrong, but the max win is hard-capped at £250,000 either way.
