Invaders Megaways Review
While it’s true that you get a “feature on every spin” in Invaders Megaways, the base game is still a pretty monotone and slow-paced affair. The wild feature is the same all the time, no matter what symbol the UFO selects, and even the top game logo premium symbol pays no more than 4x for 6OAK. The Uni-Cow feature is almost as rare, but the bonus round makes this a worthwhile game to check out.
The reels are set above a farmland at dusk or dawn, as seen from a UFO’s perspective, complete with a crop circle on the right-hand side. Loosely based on the arcade classic, Space Invaders, you’ll see a small UFO hover above a symbol display reel on top of the megaways grid. The retro/cosmic soundtrack fits the bill perfectly too, and fans of supernatural phenomena should feel right at home in this game.
Invaders Megaways Features
The Cascading Win system removes all winning symbols from the grid, and this makes room for new winning chances to drop down from above. This is a common feature in most Megaways slots, and it adds to the unpredictability of each spin. The Cascading process repeats as long as you keep winning.
All the pay symbols are on display in a special row above the reels, and a UFO goes back and forth before it settles down on a randomly chosen symbol per spin. All instances of the selected symbol turn wild for the specific round, but only within the green frame that surrounds reels 2 to 5.
The Uni-cow might appear in a UFO on any given base game spin, and it shoots a rainbow-colored beam that makes all reels display between 7 and 10 symbols. This means that you’ll be playing with between 168,070 and 1,000,000 win ways when this feature triggers.
You trigger the Bonus Round with 7, 10 or 15 free spins, respectively, whenever you land 4, 5 or 6 red planet scatters anywhere in sight. The backdrop shifts from earth to the weird alien planet depicted, and you win 4 to 15 extra spins whenever you land between 3 and 6 scatters in the bonus round.
Only the 5 premium symbols are on display above the reels in the free spins round, and the UFO picks one of them per spin. This awards 1 of 5 symbol-specific modifiers randomly per spin as follows:
- The game logo - expands all logo instances to cover the full reel.
- Scientist - the line win multiplier doubles on every cascade in a single sequence, starting at x2 and going up to a maximum of x256.
- Alien - increases the reel height on all alien symbol reels, and adjacent reels, generating up to 1 million win ways in the process.
- Cow - turn all cows into x2 wilds, and these count as 2 wild symbols in terms of win ways.
- Ray gun - awards 1 wild randomly placed per ray gun symbol, but not if the ray gun lands from a cascade.
Review Summary
If there is one thing we are fussy about, it’s the game pace. It might seem like a minor detail, but it’s really not when you’re going to plough through hundreds, if not thousands, of spins in a single session. It’s way too slow and awkward in Invaders Megaways, but we know that not all players care too much about this. We like how they are not afraid of going their own way with this engine though, and they keep doing new stuff with it on every new release.
The low symbol value means that you’re pretty dependent on lengthy wild-induced cascades to keep yourself afloat in the base game. These come along once in a while, but as usual, the bonus round is your best bet for the big payouts. The Unicow is not called ‘mythical’ for no reason, as you’ll see that feature about as seldom as you would a real UFO. Random bonus round modifiers keep things varied, and if you can stomach the pace, this is a pretty decent release.

Another Megaways game - is a release, and it’s all about collecting fuel cells to travel to different planets in the solar system.
