This is a follow-up game, as the original wasn’t a massive hit. Candlemass has come up with 3 unique songs this time, instead of just one, and fans of the obscure Swedish ‘doom metal’ band should rejoice. Gothic headbangers have a lot to look forward to, as House of Doom 2: The Crypt comes with plenty of features and a beefed up math model.
Each base game domain has its own song, and Spirit Gate Frames trigger expanding wild respins with a domain-specific modifier. Triggering the respin modifier becomes easier in the equally domain-specific bonus round, and all 3 can combine forces via the Spirit of Unity Wild that will only land during the Crypt Spins feature. Visually, the game has been improved also, and fans of the creepy atmosphere offered by the original will hardly be disappointed.
House of Doom 2: The Crypt Features
You will benefit from 4 different female character wild symbols in this game, and they all step in for regular pay symbols. They also award 25x your stake for 5 on a payline, and all of them come with special abilities we’ll take a closer look at below.
Spirit Gate Frames will appear at random times during base game play, and landing a wild inside a Spirit Gate expands the wild to fully cover the reel. It also triggers a respin with zone-specific modifiers as follows:
- Queen of the Damned – manifests spirit gates on all the reels during the respin.
- Fire Mistress – boosts any respin win with a random multiplier of 2x, 3x, 5x or 10x.
- Metal Priestess – upgrades all premium symbols to the highest value skull symbol.
- Spirit of Unity - is only available during the Crypt Spins bonus round (see below).
You trigger the regular bonus round by landing 3 regular Crypt scatters on reels 1, 3 and 5 at the same time. You will benefit from at least 1 Spirit Gate on each spin during the feature, and which modifier wild you land during free spins depends on which base game Zone you came from.
When scatters land in a Spirit Gate, they are upgraded to Flaming Crypt scatters. You can land 3 of these via the Queen of the Damned respin, or during the regular bonus round. You get 8 Crypt Spins either way, and now the Spirit of Unity wild comes into play. If she lands in a Spirit Gate, you get a respin where all 3 of the other modifiers are active at the same time. The Crypt Spins feature can be retriggered indefinitely.
The 200 Spins House of Doom 2: The Crypt Experience
Nothing too exciting happened in the base game this time, but we trigger the bonus round at 0:40 into the 3-minute highlights video. Queen of the Damned was our “spirit guide” throughout the feature, and we landed a larger payout when 4 of the 5 reels became fully expanded versions of her. Review Summary
While this reviewer enjoyed the original House of Doom, the game was never a massive success. It’s therefore a bit surprising that a follow-up title has been released. The potential has been beefed up significantly in House of Doom 2: The Crypt, offering total payouts up to 6,000x your stake, and you now have a unique doom metal soundtrack for each of the 3 base game domains.
All the features being nested within each other creates a certain “house of mirrors” effect, and this can be somewhat confusing at first. The good news is that you don’t have to fully understand how everything works to enjoy the gameplay. The first game was already somewhat of an acquired taste, and that’s the case with this follow-up title also. It’s therefore hard to tell if it will be more successful the second time around.

House of Doom - is well worth a try if you liked this follow-up game. It’s the original project, and rumor has it that the COO was in-studio instructing the band himself. You can look forward to a Skull of Abyss pick’em game, as well as plenty of expanding wilds in the bonus round.
Testament - is throning at the top of metal series, at least when it comes to potential. You can win up to 20,000x your stake, and there are 3 unique bonus rounds. The Testament Spins combines features from all 3, and this one might just convert newbies into headbaning thrash metal fans overnight.
Sabaton - is the first ever branded slot, and it revolves around the famous swedish power metal band. As you can imagine, their epic songs about war and heroism are on full display here, and the bonus round comes with 3x3 mega symbols for payouts up to 5,000x your stake.
