We have to reveal up front that we aren’t really huge fans of the Mine Games genre, as we find each installment to be too similar to the next one. Hot Shots: Mines is no exception in that regard, and it plays out similarly to other installments. The football visuals are brand new though, although similar to other installments in the Hot Shots range.
If you enjoy making picks that reveal increasing cash prizes, while trying your best to avoid the red card, well, then you’ll probably enjoy this installment as well. Nothing new to see in other words, and the 282x potential is a tad lower than previous Mines releases from this developer. It’s time to mix things up with a bit of innovation, modifiers and features, otherwise we don’t see this series going anywhere.
Hot Shots: Mines Game Features and How to Play
Before the game starts, you need to choose your bet size (£/€1 to £/€300). In addition, you will choose your preferred number of red cards. The red cards are the “mines” in this game, and picking a red card ends the game round with all winnings lost. You can choose 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 10, or 15 red cards to be hidden per round, and this gives you 24, 23, 20, 15, 12, 8 or 5 picks, respectively.
The game round starts when you hit the “play!” button, and you will then pick one and one positions on the 5x5 grid. You’re good as long as you reveal a football cash prize, and the prize value increases per new pick. You can see how much the next football prize is worth on the right-hand side, and below is a display that reveals how many prizes you have discovered thus far.
Your total winnings is on display on the Cash Out button, and you can cash out at any time. The maximum win for each round is also on display, and it’s determined by the number of red cards you choose up front. The max win varies from 23.5x your stake for 1 red card, to 282x your stake for 2 red cards. Adding more red cards than 2 gives you a lower max win than 282x, but the prizes increase faster the more red cards you go with.

Review Summary
The Hot Shots series already got its Megaways installment in good time for the Fifa World Cup of 2022. The developer has apparently also managed to squeeze in this Mines installment to make the range complete, and Hot Shots: Mines offers nothing new in comparison with previous mine type games we’ve seen.
We found the visuals to be more engaging in other games to be honest, but football fans might appreciate the red cards and football prizes you get here. These types of games aren’t really all that engaging in our view, and the low potential doesn’t help either. We prefer regular slots to this, in other words, but it’s a decent little game to toy with on your phone while watching the matches.
