The presentation gets the job done though, but what’s under the hood made a better and more lasting impression.
Everything revolves around the Wheelspin Wild feature, which takes center stage in both bonus round tiers, as well as in the base game. It’s basically a wild transformation feature that can also create multiplier wilds, and Wheelspin wilds are sticky in both bonus round tiers. The super version comes with upgradable and persistent multiplier positions as well, and it can lead to solid payouts up to 25,000x your stake.

The premium car symbols pay between 5 and 10 x your stake for 5 of a kind wins, and you can land Wheelspin Wilds on reels 2 to 5. We have seen better visuals for sure, but Hot Rod Racers comes with a retro charm nonetheless. The pyro effect you get from the exhaust pipe reel frame is admittedly kind of neat, but there is still a low-budget vibe hanging over this production. This is not really a deal-breaker in our opinion, and not least since the features can turbo charge your winnings out of the blue.
The Wheelspin Wild multiplier position upgrade system looks cool when it plays out, and it can also be highly effective on a good day. This is not least the case in the Super version of the bonus round, although things can escalate plenty in the regular feature as well. Massive single spin payouts can be landed, and the win cap of 25,000x seems achievable enough. Overall, Hot Rod Racers is well worth checking out, and with better visuals it could’ve been an instant classic.
