Hot Rocks Review
Hot Rocks is a new slot game scheduled for release in the last days of February. This new game is packed with the studio's revolutionary Max Win mechanics and an advanced payout engine. Moreover, fans will enjoy a number of grid modifiers brought via Bonus Wheel!
What is in common with Hot Rocks is the Massive Max Win which doubles the win cap through the Buy Feature tools. But I'll get back to that slightly later in this review and, for the time being, will focus on the interface and mechanics. Pay Anywhere is powering a 6-reel and 5-row grid.
Symbols pay from any location if 8 or more of a kind are present. Moreover, winning combinations activate cascades by removing the participating symbols and adding new ones to fill the gaps. Hot Rocks has an active Multiplier Trail in the base game and bonus spins, as well as several grid modifiers.
The technical set is standard for the company. Gamblers can activate Turbo, Super Turbo, Autoplay, Buy Feature, and bet enhancers. They can also control the sound effects, which, in my opinion, are awesome. Hot Rocks is compatible with Android, Windows, and iOS, thanks to HTML5 optimization.
The Hot Rocks slot is packed with 4 precious gems and 5 extraterrestrial rocks with carved runes of unclear origin. The wild symbols substitute for all of them, but they can appear only as an effect of the Bonus Wheel. Scatters land in the form of the slot's logo and activate the bonus round!
Red Gems pay the rewards - 2.50x to 50x the bet, and are followed by the Blue Gems, Purple Gems, and Green Gems. They award between 0.50x to 1x for 8 or 9 in view, respectively, or 8x to 15x for 15 to 30 on the reels from each kind. Rocks with ruins bring payouts from 0.10x to 4x the stake.
Hot Rocks provides stake levels between €0.10 and €100 per spin, but that element is configurable and might differ from one online casino to another. The game is characterized by very high levels of volatility, while the Hit Frequency rate remains lower than usual.
Then again, the Hot Rocks RTP rate is excellent - 96.65%, although it may vary in tight limits if you activate an enhancer or Bonus Buy. The maximum win is 25,000x the bet, which jumps up to 50,000x the stake via the same tools. Keep in mind that both targets come with slim chances to drop, so bet wisely!
Hot Rocks Features
Hot Rocks reveals most of its special features in the base game and enhances them in the bonus minigame. Each of them activates relatively frequently, so you will not need too much time to evaluate their efficiency. However, you'll need to be patient if you are after the big money!
Multiplier Trail
Multiplier Trail is an additional reel located above the board that rotates from right to left on every spin. It consists of 15 positions, with the leftmost one being active and awarding multipliers and bonuses. Multiplier Reel may consist of increasing multiplier values or blanks.
There is no limit to the multipliers, and with every cascade win, the trail moves one position to the left, activating a higher multiplier. Some of the positions glow and activate the Bonus Wheel. There is no rule that a glowing cell must contain a multiplier!
Bonus Wheel
If you land a Bonus cell in the active Multiplier Reel position, the Bonus Wheel starts automatically. It will award one of four modifiers as displayed below:
- Boost - Multiplier Reel moves a random number of positions to the left.
- Symbol Blast - random symbols are removed, and new ones cascade in.
- Add Wilds - a random number of extra wilds are added to the grid.
- Multiply - multipliers in view are multiplied by either x2, x3, x4, x5, x6, x8, or x10.
Free Games Bonus
Three, four, or five scatters in the base game activate the bonus and award 8, 10, or 12 free spins, respectively. If you land 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, or 9+ scatters during the bonus, you'll earn from 5 to 10 extra rounds with no cap set but the max win. Free Spins is played with non-resettable Multiplier Reel and increased multiplier values.
Buy Feature
The studio added their special Bonus Buy panel with doubled max win (25,000x - 50,000x). That extra is available if you activate one of the Enhancers, Bonus Buy 2 or Bonus Buy 3. Keep in mind that the panel might not be active in all jurisdictions. Here is what is available for purchase:
- Game Enhancer 1 - 2x the bet - 4x chance to trigger Free Spins (96.59%)
- Game Enhancer 2 - 4x the bet - 8x chance to trigger Free Spins (96.50%)
- Bonus Buy 1 - 100x the bet - buy 8 or more free spins (96.69%)
- Bonus Buy 2 - 250x the bet - buy 10 or more free spins, with an increased chance for bonuses and higher multipliers (96.57%)
- Bonus Buy 3 - 750x the bet - buy 12 or more free spins, with an increased chance for bonuses and higher multipliers (96.55%)
Theme & Graphics
Hot Rocks is more like a cold galactic adventure. The action takes place on an inhabitable moon or perhaps an asteroid with glowing crystals and small radiation clouds on the back. The darkness is somehow charming, and the neon lights enhance the effect.
The Space theme mixed with gems is a classic. Here, we found much more advanced mechanics and significantly improved audio-visual elements. The graphics are crystal-clear, while the animations are nice but not lavish. The calm, relaxing tunes fit the theme and bring us instantly to galaxies far from our reach.

Our Verdict
Hot Rocks is another good-looking addition to the studio's library, and it's worth the spin by those who prefer action-packed gameplay. Multiplier Reel and Bonus Wheel are excellent additions to the Pay Anywhere mechanics with cascading reels. I must also highlight the Massive Max Win feature, which seems to have already become an integral part of the studio's slots.
Overall, Hot Rocks is not innovative, and most of the individual payouts will be rather insufficient, even boosted with multipliers. You'll need at least 8 - 10 consecutive cascades to get yourself a massive multiplier unless you are lucky and activate the Multiply modifier. Well, I wasn't that lucky during my test session!
Still, the company is trying to pave its own way, and that deserves applause. Hopefully, we'll see new elements in each one!
On the other hand, Hot Rocks failed to prove that it's solid in any way, at least in my mind.
But as I already pointed out, the studio is struggling to be original and introduce new features. Both are hard to achieve given the huge iGaming competition nowadays and the tremendous variety of slots on the market. Perhaps Hot Rocks is not ideal, yes, but it comes in impressive numbers and an exciting feature set!
