Holmes: Reel Detective Review
We have a number of slots based around the world famous detective, and his equally famous partner. Another one is fine, and the audiovisual presentation in Holmes: Reel Detective is decent.
The 6x4 grid is set against the dimly lit and rainy streets of the Victorian era London, and Sherlock’s Magnifying Glasses are looking for Fingerprints as they move across the reels. The walking K-Cash prize system is enhanced by a multiplier trail that kicks in when more than one fingerprint is captured, and the prizes also increase for each step in both bonus rounds.
Holmes: Reel Detective Slot Features
You win by landing 3-5 matching symbols on adjacent reels in any position from left to right, and the premium symbols pay out for 5 of a kind wins. The ghostly Wild symbol does not hold any value of its own, but it steps in for all regular pay symbols to help complete winning combinations.
You’ll see Magnifying Glass overlay symbols wander from right to left per spin, and each K-Cash Magnifying Glass carries a cash prize. When a Magnifying Glass lands on top of a Fingerprint symbol, the cash value is paid and the Magnifying Glass is removed.
When more than one Fingerprint is captured this way at the same time, the K-Cash Multiplier trail seen above the grid comes into play. Each involved cash prize is then multiplied before everything is summed up, and 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6 captured Fingerprints gives each prize a multiplier boost.
The K-Boost system increases the number of Free Spins you have in escrow as you grind along in the base game, and a number of spins is the most each of the 2 features can hold. The respective meters reset to a number of free spins when a bonus round has finished, and the number of racked up free spins is saved for each bet level.
You need 3 scatters anywhere in view to trigger the Bonus Rounds, and they both play out very similarly. The big difference from the base game is that the Magnifying Glass K-Cash values increase each time the symbols move one step to the left.
One feature awards K-Cash values that are boosted on the leftmost reel, while the other feature gives you K-Cash Magnifying Glass symbols that are boosted on the leftmost reel. The K-Cash Multiplier Trail above the grid works the same as in the base game, and it comes with the same multiplier values.
Finally, non-UK players, and anyone eligible, may take advantage of the feature. This allows you to buy different versions of the Bonus Round, and you get Holmes Free Spins for different costs your stake, respectively. The RTP increases, also respectively, when you buy the features.
The 200 Spins Holmes: Reel Detective Slot Experience
You get to see the K-Cash Magnifying Glass feature in action in the base game for a while, before we purchase the top-tier Holmes Bonus Round into the video. You can see for yourself how many K-Cash prizes we collected, and how much we ended up winning, by hitting the play button below.
Review Summary
The wandering Magnifying Glass K-Cash concept is kind of entertaining at first, but you soon realize that it mostly breaks up the base game flow for measly prizes. Capturing more than 3 Fingerprints is not something you’ll see very often in any stage of the game. That being said, payouts are possible.
Of course, it helps a bit when the K-Cash prizes increase for each step the Magnifying Glass symbols move in the 2 bonus rounds, but you still need to capture one close to the peak to land anything remotely significant. The key to larger payouts is to capture several at the same time, and preferably close to the uttermost left, but the whole thing became a bit too monotonous after a while to make a lasting impression.
