The stage is set for another unusual encounter with the trademarked engine, and Gems Infinity Reels has a similar new age vibe as Zodiac Infinity Reels. There are several other things that sets this game apart as well, but not necessarily in a good way.
A 4th reel has been added to the usual 3x4 setup, making it harder to trigger the reel-adding mechanic. The possibility of unlocking up to 4 reel sets in the bonus round is quite unique, and it makes you wonder what’s next. Infinity reel sets, perhaps? Overall, this feels like a somewhat desperate attempt at innovation, and combined with a weak 2,267x potential, Gems IR does not look like the game that will finally break the Infinity Reels mechanic into the mainstream.
Gems Infinity Reels Features
The 1x3 sized Princess symbols serve as wilds, and they step in for all regular pay symbols to help you form winning combinations. Whenever a wild princess is part of a winning combo, the payouts are boosted by a 2x multiplier. The multiplier stays at 2x even if more than one wild princess is involved.
Reels are added on the right-hand side as long as you keep winning, and each added reel increases the symbol multiplier by +1 - ad infinitum. The multiplier also increases by +1 whenever you land a wild princess fully in view.
You win 5 free spins when you land at least 3 of the Unity Symbol in the base game. The Unity Symbols are collected in the Bonus Round, and you need to collect 5 to unlock the third reel set. This also awards +5 extra spins, and the fourth reel set is unlocked when you collect 15 Unity Symbols. Again, you get 5 spins added to your tally, and when all 4 reels are active you win +3 spins for every Unity Symbol win you land.
That’s not all however, as unlocking all 4 reels also gives you the possibility to win the Unity Bonus. If you land one instance of each wild princess fully in view, you win a bonus prize worth 888x your stake. This bonus is not affected by the progressive symbol multiplier like regular wins, and keep in mind that the multiplier resets between reel-adding sequences also during the bonus round.

Review Summary
You sometimes have to remind yourself that this is an Infinity Reels game when you play, as piling on extra reels in any significant number is a rarity you’ll seldom see. This is thanks to the 4x3 setup, making it more difficult to link a win across the entire grid than with the usual 3-reels setup. It’s also due to the double (and potentially quadruple) reel sets, and we fail to see how this can possibly bring the in-house engine any closer to mainstream success.
Piling on plenty of reels is supposed to be the big attraction, although in our view, the constant resetting of everything leaves players with a chronic sense of dissatisfaction and lack of closure. We get that they are eager to try new things to see if something sticks, but this one should have been scrapped at the drawing board. It hardly helps that the 2,267x potential is way below many better installments in the Infinity series, and that the progressive multiplier resets also in the bonus round.
