Gemix 2 Review

The first slot was a massive hit, and it has since become somewhat of a cult classic. We can confirm that the iconic soundtrack has survived the upgrade, and Gemix 2 is as charming, feature rich and fun as the original game, and perhaps even more so. Time will tell how players receive this follow-up title, but we had a really good time testing it at least (see highlights video further down in the review).

You get a brand new, slick-looking Knight character in this version, and he fits right in with the regular trio in his own castle-in-the-clouds world. The volatility is still a casual medium, but the potential has been bumped up to a very decent 7,500x your stake. You need to build up the Super Charger multiplier to close in on such numbers though, as the top symbol pays 5x less for 15+ in a cluster.

Gemix 2 slot Features

You need to collect at least 25 winning symbols on a single Avalanche sequence to fill the Crystal Charge Meter on the upper right-hand side. Winning symbols are removed from the grid as they are collected. This makes room for new winning chances dropping from above. Once the Crystal Meter is full, 1 of 4 modifiers will trigger as follows:

• Nova Blast – explodes 1 symbol which transforms and destroys adjacent symbols.
• Crystal Warp – transforms a random symbol type into other symbols.
• Light Beam – a light beam transforms affected symbols into other symbols.
• Chain Lightning – connects 2 corner symbols with a lightning bolt, and all symbols in the crossfire are turned into one of the corner symbols.

If you manage to collect 50 winning symbols in a single Avalanche sequence, you trigger the Super Charge. This unleashes all 4 modifiers, as well as a x2 multiplier wild. Collect 50 new winning symbols to retrigger the Super Charge, and this also increments the wild multiplier per retrigger, up to x20 at the most.

The blue tiles behind the symbols turn permanently yellow when winning clusters appear on top of them. These are the World Patterns you might recognize from the original game, and you move on to the next World once the whole pattern has been turned yellow.

All wins increase the World Bonus Prize Purse, and you get to pick 1 of 2 pockets when the G-Nome appears with his coat open after a world is completed. You either win the World Bonus Prize, or you pick an empty pocket and win nothing.

You also have 4 guardians that will appear at random times when you play, and each trigger their own unique wild modifier. The guardian characters, and their respective wild features, are unique to each world, and it’s announced up front as you move from one world to the next:

• The knight’s world (new to this game) awards 2 mega sized multiplier wilds.
• The miner’s world gives you up to 10 wilds randomly placed.
• The princess’ world awards wilds that can spread from edge to edge.
• The wizard’s world gives you up to 5 sticky wilds.

Review Summary

Players unfamiliar with the original title will have a mouthful getting into Gemix 2. That’s not really a bad thing though, it’s just that there’s a lot to explore and get an overview of. It really boils down to retriggering the Super Charger feature as many times as possible to build the multiplier up to 20x. All the modifiers are merely there to help you accomplish that feat.

The symbol values have been significantly reduced though, and this means that you are much more multiplier dependent on your journey towards the somewhat increased 7,500x potential. The soundtrack is still as catchy as the theme music from Nintendo’s Zelda franchise, and it’s hard not to be charmed by all the quirky characters, fantastic worlds and lengthy cascades.

However, a Super Charge awards only a 3x multiplier. The Knight is not included in this version, but you get the 3 other characters and their respective worlds.

Reactoonz 2 - is another recent grid slot follow-up to a highly popular original game. It plays out on a 7x7 grid, and it’s all about charging the Quantum meter to trigger different modifiers. The max win was changed from 3,000x to 5,083x, as the developer decided to listen to fan feedback.

Sweet Bonanza - is a popular grid slot, and it comes with a 21,175x your stake potential. You’re in for a sugar-laden trip here for sure, and a rainbow bomb can boost your bonus round wins with up to 100x. The free spins is the only feature in this game, but you also get tumble wins in the base game.
