Floating Dragon Year of the Snake Review
Released some time ago, Floating Dragon made quite an impression in the online slot world. Many sequels came after, but none reached the same level of success. Now, they're back with Floating Dragon Year of the Snake slot, hoping to recapture that magic. This time, you're treated to an Asian scene with a lake, mountain, and lanterns floating against a vibrant red sky.
On the 5x3 grid, you'll find familiar Asian-inspired symbols, with the snake itself being the highest-paying one. Betting starts at a modest amount and goes up to a significant amount per spin, accommodating both casual players and high rollers. Winning is straightforward: land 3 to 5 matching symbols on any of the 10 paylines, running from left to right. The top symbols award 20x to 200x your stake for 5-of-a-kind wins, while the royal symbols pay a more modest 5x to 10x your stake.
The base game is pretty simple, with no bonus features except for random modifiers that can nudge you into the bonus round if you land 2 scatters. Speaking of the bonus round, it's reminiscent of another popular slot, where Wild symbols collect cash values from money symbols. These money symbols can be worth up to 5,000x your stake, and Wilds are collected to increase the multiplier and award extra free spins.
Floating Dragon Year of the Snake boasts a high RTP, coupled with high volatility. This means wins might be less frequent in the base game, but the bonus round hits more often than you might expect, around once every 63 spins. While the max win of 5,000x your stake is certainly tempting, it's a rare occurrence, landing roughly once every 1,748,252 spins. Still, that's far better odds than many other slots out there.
Floating Dragon Year of the Snake Features
While the base game is barebones, you get to collect money symbols in the bonus round of Floating Dragon Year of the Snake slot, with plenty of modifiers to help you out as well. Let’s take a closer look at how it all works!
Ante Bet (not UK)
Eligible players can double their bonus round chances by turning on the ante bet option. However, this increases the cost of each spin by 50 %. The organic bonus round hit frequency is already well above average, clocking in at 1 in 63 spins. It increases to a solid 1 in 31.5 spins with the Ante Bet turned on.
Floating Dragon Year of the Snake Free Spins
The Bonus Round triggers when you land 3, 4, or 5 scatter symbols in view, awarding 10, 15, or 20 free spins, respectively. However, there are 2 ways this game can help you trigger the bonus round even if you don’t land 3+ scatters. Landing 2 scatters will sometimes trigger a nudge that may land you the 3rd scatter you need. A giant snake moving across the grid may also award the crucial 3rd scatter.
This snake is also picking 0 to 5 modifiers for you before the free spins play out, and these are as follows:
- More Coins - increases the money symbol hit rate during the bonus round.
- More Ladies - increases the hit rate of lady wild/collector symbols.
- More Dynamites, Snakes, and Firecrackers - increase the hit rate of random modifiers that help deliver money or wild symbols into view.
- Level Up - starts you out at level 2 in the progressive multiplier upgrade trail.
- Extra Free Spins - awards +2 free spins while also upgrading the retrigger extra spins from the multiplier trail by +2.
Wild symbols can land on all 5 reels in the bonus round, substituting for pay symbols to help complete wins while also collecting all money symbols in view. Money symbols come with prizes between 2x and 5,000x your stake. The Wild is then collected in the multiplier and extra spins upgrade trail above the grid, with every 4th collected wild awarding +10 extra spins and upgrading the money symbol win multiplier (x2, x3, and x10).
There are 3 random modifiers that can trigger at random times to help you out, and these work as follows:
- Dynamite - can trigger when a wild is present with no money symbols to collect, adding money symbols.
- Snake - can nudge a random reel to award a collector wild when money symbols are present without wilds.
- Firecracker - transform all symbols except wilds for a new winning opportunity.
Floating Dragon Year of the Snake Bonus Buy (not UK)
The Bonus Buy menu is found on the left-hand side if you are eligible for it, and the price for a guaranteed bonus round trigger is 100x your stake.

Floating Dragon Year of the Snake plays out in a serene Asian landscape. The transparent reels are set against a striking blood-red sky, with a peaceful lake reflecting the mountains and lanterns drifting in the breeze. Look closer, and you'll spot a subtle snake pattern in the sky, a nod to the Year of the Snake theme. Our Verdict
This developer is known for squeezing every last drop out of their successful slots, and they haven't exactly struck gold outside of one popular series. The Floating Dragon series, their Asian-themed spin-off, has seen its fair share of releases, but only the original remains popular to this day. Floating Dragon Year of the Snake feels like they're playing it safe, although I must admit the Asian-inspired visuals are quite stunning.
The base game is as basic as it gets, which can be a bit of a drag. However, there's a silver lining: the bonus round triggers more often than in most similar games, not least if you activate the Ante bet. While that's a plus, the high volatility can still leave you feeling a bit snake-bitten, as many bonus rounds fizzle out with disappointing wins. It's especially frustrating when the snake decides to be stingy and offers zero modifiers, even though you know it could have given you up to 5. This happened surprisingly often during my test session.
For seasoned players, the free spins feature will feel like familiar territory. It's all about collecting those money symbols and hoping the multiplier climbs to a glorious x10, which also grants you the maximum number of retriggers. Floating Dragon Year of the Snake throws in some random modifiers that we've seen in other similar games, but nothing groundbreaking. On the plus side, you can land money symbols worth up to a solid 5,000x your stake. And unlike some games that dangle that big prize with the remaining symbols being much lower, this game also offers 2,500x and 1,666x money symbols.
When luck is on your side and the snake blesses you with a decent number of bonus round modifiers, the free spins can be quite rewarding. However, the 100x bonus buy price tag hints at the average payout you can expect. Personally, my favorite in the series is another version of Floating Dragon, where the multiplier has no upper limit, and the max win is 20,000x your stake. Floating Dragon Year of the Snake is a decent enough game on its own, but it doesn't bring anything new to the table that would make it stand out from the crowd.
