Theme & Graphics
Eye of Medusa takes you to ancient Greece with what looks like overgrown temple ruins in the background. The setting is lush compared to most Greek mythology slots, and the dimly lit forest adds to the mysterious atmosphere. Medusa herself is standing seductively on the right-hand side of the grid, playing with her pet snake while the brave Greek warrior poses in full armor on the opposite side. Surely, he doesn’t quite know what sorcery he’s up against, and the poor fellow is petrified when Medusa reveals her true snake hair self in the bonus round.

Our Verdict
While I enjoy the cartoonish characters this game has, there is something about the color of the grid that felt a bit off. This notion is amplified by the dirt-color royal symbols, and it adds up to one of the most unappealing visual presentations. This is an aspect that is usually nailed, which makes it even more noticeable when it slips up.
The soundtrack didn’t quite do it for me either, although it’s not as unbearable as the visual mess. Medusa herself is looking straight at you with her intense gaze, mostly ignoring the pet snake vying for her attention. She does cuddle with it on occasion, though, which is a nice touch, and a good job has been done incorporating the Gorgon’s myth into the gameplay and mechanics. This is undoubtedly the most enjoyable aspect of Eye of Medusa.
The Medusa symbol turning characters into stone is a clever feature, and piling up as many petrified characters as you can is a fun prospect. The frame of the petrified symbols - bronze, silver, or gold - gives you a hint of what prizes to expect from each symbol, and Medusa can potentially boost the total prize with her multiplier. The multiplier is not as massive as in many games, and overall, this does not feel like a typical release.
However, it’s always positive that a studio is willing to experiment and get out of the mold once in a while, as this is how providers grow and become more of themselves. Both bonus rounds offer more of the same but with added benefits. They usually include two different bonus round types in most games, but not so in Eye of Medusa. While far from the most convincing release, there are still good times to be had in this game if you can stomach the visuals.
