The first installment in what might become the ‘El’ series, was action-packed and quite enjoyable. El Cowboy Megaways takes you to a similar south-of-the-border setting, but this time dressed up in a Día de los Muertos style theme. Bandits are still part of the equation though, and one of them will provide dynamite modifiers in the bonus round.
Modifiers take their sweet time to play out many times, but it’s hard to complain when it leads to larger payouts. The top and bottom modifier reel system is carried over into this sequel, and you get the same 3 wild modifiers from it in the base game. The bonus round has undergone some changes however, and it can dish out up to an x100 win multiplier per spin. The 10,000x potential is significantly reduced, but the same goes for the medium volatility.

Review Summary
The pace of the original was a bit faster than this follow-up, and you’re made to wait for different animations even with the turbo switched on. The top/bottom reel modifier system is pretty much the same as before, but the dynamic reels Megaways engine takes everything up a notch (at least in terms of possible win ways). The 10,000x potential is actually significantly lower in this sequel, as you can win up to 25,000x in El Patron.
It comes across as a bit lazy that the modifiers haven’t been changed at all, but at least there has been an important upgrade in the bonus round. The multiplier reel is a welcome addition, and it combines well with multiplier wilds. The medium volatility is more forgiving, which makes it easier to forgive the lower max win. Overall, this is far better than the more generic Megaways releases we see all the time.
