Dwarven Gems Megaways Review
Each spin includes the sound of a pickaxe, and a very good soundtrack that fits the mining theme. So far, so good, for Dwarven Gems Megaways, but visually the dark/grey color scheme feels off. It isn’t a huge problem, and the steampunk dwarves are well-made characters that serve as premium symbols and animated companions.
You’ll play in the base game, usually with little to show for it, until the Dwarven Bomb appears and the left-hand side dwarf throws a lit dynamite into the game. This can lead to some explosive tumbling wins sometimes, but you will probably need the unlimited progressive win multiplier in the bonus round to truly win. The math model is good, except for the RTP ranges, and this is a well-made installment in the popular Mining slot genre.
Dwarven Gems Megaways Features
The wild symbols can land on reels 2 to 6 in all stages of the game, and they step in for all regular pay symbols to help you form winning combos. The wilds don’t hold any value of their own, but the 4 dwarven miners that make up the premium symbols pay between 2.5x and 5x your stake for 6 on a payline. The wilds don’t land on the top sliding reel, only on the regular reels.
All wins are followed by the usual Tumble mechanic, and winning symbols are exploded to be replaced by new or existing symbols cascading down from above. This process repeats as long as you keep winning, and it thus offers indefinite “extra wins” per paid round.
The animated miner on the-left hand side will sometimes assist you, and this happens whenever a Dwarven Bomb symbol slides in on the top horizontal reel. The bomb serves as a sticky wild, and the miner dwarf will lob a stick of dynamite onto the reels when the tumble feature comes to an end. This explodes a random number of symbols, triggering a new tumble.
The Green Gem scatter appears on reels 2 to 5 only (not the top reel), and you need 4 in sight to trigger the Bonus Round. A gem wheel will then spin to award 6 to 11 free spins, and the bonus round comes with a progressive win multiplier that starts at x1. It increases by +1 per tumble win, with no upper limit.
Power Gem symbols can slide in on the top reel during the feature, and this symbol serves double duty as both wild and scatter. What’s more, it adds 2 to 4 wilds on reels 2 to 4 whenever it appears, and 2 Power Gems can add wilds to reel 5 also. As a scatter, each Power Gem adds +2 free spins to your tally.
Finally, you have the Lucky Last Spin feature that kicks in only if you win on the final free spin. If you also win on the Lucky Last Spin, you get another chance, and this repeats as long as you keep winning. Non-UK players can take advantage of the Bonus Buy options, and these are as follows:
- Pay 200x the stake for 6 to 11 free spins from the wheel.
- Pay 45x, 150x or 300x your stake for 7, 9 or 11 free spins, respectively.
- Getting 15 or 20 free spins will set you back 400x or 500x your stake, respectively. This bonus round tier comes with a Bonus Upgrader, and this means more frequent Power Gems and Dwarven Bomb symbols.
The 200 Spins Dwarven Gems Megaways Experience
You get to see the Dwarven Bomb in action at the very beginning of the almost 3-minute highlights video, and then we trigger the bonus round close to the 1-minute mark. We got only 6 free spins from the wheel however, but the feature was prolonged a bit by extra spins in the end. See it all for yourself by hitting the play button below.
Review Summary
We really like the sound of the pickaxe that follows every spin, as it adds a very physical sense of “concreteness” to the base game grind. It draws you in, and makes you feel like you’re there in the mineshaft, humming along with the soundtrack. The visual presentation is not bad either, but the dark/grey color scheme is not exactly a mood lifter.
As for the actual gameplay, it’s pretty similar to other games, but with a few extras thrown into the mix. The Dwarven Bomb looks more impressive than it usually is in terms of winnings, and the base game is mostly a sinking ship. The bonus round Green Gem made more of an impact in our experience, as it awards both random wilds and extra spins. The 20,000x potential is solid, but this is hardly for casual punters.
