Review

Atomic Slot Lab's Dreamy Genie is an interesting project. Although we appreciate all the heavy-hitters, there’s always something special when it comes to checking out what new studios are capable of. It turns out that this one is capable of quite a lot, and that we have an interesting slot in our hands. It’s not all sunshine, and there are some edges to be ironed out going forward. For now, we’ll start by saying that the action takes place across 5 reels, 4 rows, and 1,024 ways to win.

Thematically, Dreamy Genie builds on Arabian fairy tales. It's rather colorful, too, and we like the visual style the package comes with. What we don’t like as much, on the other hand, is the intrusive interface that really isn’t seamlessly integrated into the whole thing. Perhaps that’s one of the areas that the designers should work on a bit more going forward.

The mathematical model of Dreamy Genie builds on a medium-high volatility level, with a decent 4,000x jackpot. The betting range then caters to players with all kinds of bankrolls, which is nice to see. The least that you always have to play for is £0.25, while the max bet stands at £100. The game’s theoretical RTP is then 95.49%, which is somewhat below average. Again, perhaps one of the areas that can be improved going forward, though we are sure that this isn’t completely down to the studio’s game designers only.

Slot Features

It might come as a slight surprise, but Dreamy Genie features as many as 12 pay symbols. There are 6 low pays that show card ranks from Nines to Aces, for starters, and these all come with the same payout values. A full set of five of matching card ranks will net you 1x your stake, while the payouts do then get better as you move through the paytable. For the more valuable symbols, there are shoes, carpets, swords, rings, bags with gems, and even the titular genies. Those pay the most, and you’ll get a tidy 10x payout for a five-of-a-kind combination.

Interestingly, there’s only one special symbol, the Lamp Wild symbol. Lamp Wilds do not only substitute for other symbols to complete winning combinations, but they also trigger the slot’s main gameplay feature. Note that they appear only on the middle three reels, which makes getting a lot out of them somewhat difficult.

If you land 3 Lamp Wilds in a single spin, you’ll trigger the Wheel feature. Even 1 or 2 Lamp Wilds can trigger it, but that’s all down to luck, without any guarantees. The Wheel feature itself will then net you bet multipliers, win multipliers, extra Lamp Wilds, the Free Spins feature, or the Bonus Game.

Most of those rewards are rather self-explanatory, but the Free Spins feature is worth noting in that it can have 10, 15, 20, 25, 50, or even 100 free spins! You can also trigger the Wheel feature again during free spins, which can lead to even more free spins getting added to your tally.

The Bonus Game then has the form of a small minigame that’s all about trying to match 3 cards. Once that happens, you’ll win the corresponding jackpot, of which there are four. They are called Mini, Minor, Major, and Grand. Their values are then 10x, 40x, 200x, and 4,000x your bet, respectively.

Players that don’t want to wait for their Lamp Wilds can then also use the Buy a Bonus feature. Using this option will cost you 80x your bet, and you’ll get the Free Spins feature with a random number of free spins (up to 100).

Review Summary

While Dreamy Genie isn’t the most polished game out there, we do appreciate that it exists, and we think that it shows how much potential Atomic Slot Lab have. There are some rough edges here and there, true, but the gameplay is fun and the slot is mostly great to look at as well, so we have no issues recommending the game for players that like Arabian-themed slots!
