Dragon Hero Review

Dragon Hero comes with beautiful sceneries in the background. The symbols are a bit too generic for our taste though, but that’s not uncommon with the oriental theme. The base game is not the most eventful thing we’ve tried, and you will get plenty of dead spins between anything significant happening.

Everything revolves around the somewhat innovative Super Wild feature, and these are special wilds that will spread up to 3 wilds to random positions. What looks like the pinkish ghost of a dragon flies around in the background on a regular basis, and you get fireworks in the bonus round. All Super Wilds are sticky during the feature, dishing out wilds on each free spin. This can land you payouts up to 5,000x your stake, and fans of the asian genre might enjoy what’s on offer here.

Dragon Hero Slot Features

The premium symbols, consisting of coins, scrolls, urns, fish, frogs, and a sycee, pay between 5 and 40 x your stake for 5 of a kind wins. Regular Yin & Yang Wild symbols can land anywhere to step in for pay symbols and help complete wins, and wilds pay 60x your stake should 5 wilds appear on the same payline.

You can land Super Wilds on reels 2, 3, and 4 only, and they also step in for pay symbols to help complete wins. The Super Wild holds between 1 and 3 regular wilds as smaller icons, and these are distributed to random positions after the reels stop. However, more than one wild can be assigned to the same position.

You need 3, 4, or 5 scatters in view to trigger the Bonus Round, and this gives you 6, 8, or 10 bonus wheels, respectively. The bonus wheel spins to give you between 1 and 3 free spins each, which means you’ll get between 6 and 30 free spins (depending on how many triggering scatters you landed).

All Super Wilds are sticky in the bonus round, and they spread the number of wilds they contain to random positions per free spin. Scatter symbols add half a wild to a random Super Wild, and this is how you can upgrade the super wilds with more wilds. Wilds can still be assigned to the same position, and there is no way to retrigger the bonus round. Non-UK players can purchase the feature for 100x the stake, guaranteeing 3+ scatters on the spin that follows.

Review Summary

The oriental visuals are pleasing to the eye, but Dragon Hero still comes across as too generic and run-of-the-mill. It’s a typical release in that sense, but at least the Super Wild feature is kind of original and fun. Having wilds spread more wilds to random positions is an innovative touch, although it’s basically just a random wilds feature. Still, it can be effective at times, but we got plenty of dead spins in the base game as well.

It didn’t come across as a tedious grind for some reason, so apparently the super wild thing is enough to keep you entertained for a while. Pretty much anything can happen if you get enough sticky super wilds in the bonus round, at least to the tune of 5,000x your stake. Asian-themed slots don’t usually fare too well in the western markets, but perhaps this one will go down as a home run on the other side of the world. It’s hard to tell sometimes, but it’s not a bad effort overall.
